  2. Part 1: Planning/Prewriting (15 minutes) • Read your assigned topic. • Use a Planning/Prewriting Page for your prewriting. • Preview the Writing Checklist to make sure you cover each of the points listed.

  3. Part 2: Drafting (35 minutes) • Using your prewriting, write a first draft of your paper on Drafting Pages. • Concentrate on getting your ideas down on paper.

  4. Part 3: Revising & Editing(20 minutes) • Review a Writing Checklist and then reread what you have written. • Ask yourself if your ideas are expressed clearly and completely. • Consider rearranging your ideas and changing words to make your paper more effective. • Check for mistakes in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.

  5. Part 4: Preparing Your Final Draft (20 minutes) • Rewrite your paper on clean paper. • Write only on the front of the paper. • When you rewrite, make sure that you use a blue or black ink pen and that you write neatly. • You may either print or write in cursive.

  6. Part 5: Proofreading(10 minutes) • Read your final draft carefully. • Make any needed corrections or changes. • You may strike through words, but do not use correction fluid.
