Understanding Resources, Organisms, and Cells: A Guide for April 10, 2014
This educational material covers key concepts in science, focusing on nonrenewable resources, the classification of organisms, food webs, and the distinctive features of animal and plant cells. It includes practice questions related to resource types, autotrophs, and organ systems, as well as information about cell structures and functions. Ideal for students preparing for science exams, this guide facilitates comprehension of essential biological concepts and encourages critical thinking through interactive questions and homework assignments.

Animal Cells • Turn to page 9 in your packet
Cell membrane cytoplasm lysosome Nucleus Endoplasmic reticulum vacuole ribosomes mitochondria Golgi body
Main Features to Know • Cell membrane- keeps the cell together, but lets in/out chemicals, and proteins. • Nucleus- contains the DNA of the cell. • Mitochondria- the powerhouse of the cell, where energy is converted for use. • Ribosome- contains RNA and protein synthesis. • Cytoplasm- a jelly-like substance filling the cell and surrounding the organelles.
Cell wall cytoplasm Cell membrane vacuole Endoplasmic reticulum nucleus ribosome chloroplast Golgi body mitochondria
Main Features to Know • Cell wall- made of cellulose, gives the plant its structure. • Chloroplast- contains chlorophyll and is the site of photosynthesis in the cell. • Vacuole- a large space in the cell filled with fluid that helps to maintain the shape of the cell.
