OperaHouseHistory In 1868 Armenian composer and conductor TigranChukhajyan composed the first national Armenian opera, “The Arshak II,” set in the fourth century when Armenia fought for its independence. Exactly for this opera the contemporaries worthily named the composer “Armenian Verdi.” On the whole, TigranChukhajyan was the first Armenian composer to create operetta, musical drama and opera. Chukhajyan was also the first to organize musical companies in Armenia. TigranChukhajyan made an outstanding contribution to the creation of the Opera House. This cannot be denied. Before him there, undoubtedly, were many Armenian composers who dealt with various types of musical theater, but the lack of a real opera house was a great obstacle for them to accomplish their ideas. Back then people used to dream of a steady theater. As they say, any dream can come true if it is truly pursued. This dream came true in 1933.
