  6. TRANSITIONAL LEARNING CENTER (TLC) • TLC CLASSES ARE TAUGHT IN AN ALTERNATIVE SETTING FOR CREDIT RECOVERY • THE TLC IS NOT ACCREDITED • 30 CREDITS OF TLC CLASSES = TLC DIPLOMA • ATTENTION: TLC DIPLOMA STUDENTS WILL WALK IN THE MORNING ALTERNATIVE ED/ MT TALLAC GRADUATION CEREMONY

A WORD ABOUT ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES AP CLASSES: *ARE COLLEGE CLASSES TAUGHT IN HIGH SCHOOL *ARE RIGOROUS AND CHALLENGING *REQUIRE LOTS OF STUDY TIME: AT LEAST AN HOUR PER NIGHT FOR EACH ONE *HAVE A WEIGHTED GPA; COLLEGES LIKE TO SEE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CLASSES TAKEN *REQUIRES PARENT AND STUDENT SIGNATURES ON COURSE SELECTION FORM AGREEING TO THE AP PROCEDURE *MIGHT INTERFERE WITH EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES – YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BALANCE SCHOOL WORK , ACTIVITIES, AND FAMILY OBLIGATIONS *ARE FUN!!! KNOW WHAT YOU CAN HANDLE WHEN SELECTING CLASSES – NO CHANGES OUT OF AP CLASSES.

APCOURSES 2014-15 • 9TH GRADE: AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY • 10TH GRADE: AP WORLD HISTORY • 11TH GRADE: AP ENGLISH LANGUAGE, AP US HIST • 12TH GRADE: AP ENGLISH LITERATURE, AP GOVERNMENT/POLITICS • GRADES 10 – 12 : AP BIOLOGY (with Comparative Physiology), AP STATISTICS (must have B or better in Algebra II), CALCULUS AB/BC (must have B or better in Pre-Calc H), AP PSYCHOLOGY, AP SPANISH LITERATURE (must have completed AP Spanish Language or Spanish IVH). • MUST HAVE 32 STUDENTS TO RUN THE CLASS.

UC/CSU COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS SUBJECTS (COLLEGE PREP) CLASSES ENGLISH 4 MATH (ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA 2) 3 SCIENCE (LIFE, PHYSICAL) 2 SOCIAL SCIENCE 2 LOTE 2 VPA 1 ELECTIVES 1 11 OUT OF THE 15 COURSES MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF THE JUNIOR YEAR TO BE UC ELIGIBLE. ADDITIONAL CLASSES IN THE ABOVE SUBJECTS ARE RECOMMENDED TO BE COMPETITIVE. SAT OR ACT TEST (SAT SUBJECTS TEST SUGGESTED FOR CERTAIN MAJORS) MINIMUM GPA: 2.0 FOR CSU 3.0 FOR UC NO D OR F GRADES ARE ADMISSIBLE.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • THE AVID PROGRAM REQUIRES RECOMMENDATION, APPLICATION AND INTERVIEW (waiting list for 9, 10 graders; not available for grades 11, 12 unless re-entering) • DIRECTED STUDIES WITH AN IEP/CASE CARRIER SIGNATURE • SKI TEAM: PARENT SIGNATURE REQUIRED • AP / HONORS COURSES – SIGNED COURSE REQUEST FORM ACKNOWLEDGING UNDERSTANDING OF AP PROCEDURES • LATE IN/ EARLY OUT (GRADES 11-12 ON TRACK ONLY) – MUST HAVE PARENT SIGNATURE • TA/PEER TUTOR – MUST HAVE TEACHER SIGNATURE

FILLING OUT YOUR COURSE REQUEST FORM • BE SURE TO: • SIGN THE COURSE REQUEST FORM • HAVE PARENT SIGN THE FORM TOO • HAVE TEACHERS SIGN THE FORM IF NEEDED FOR SPECIFIC CLASSES, PROGRAMS, ETC. • CHOOSE YOUR ELECTIVES AND ALTERNATES WISELY AND IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE ALTERNATES WILL BE USED!!! • MEET WITH YOUR CASE CARRIERS FOR SPECIFICS IF YOU ARE A SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENT • CONSULT YOUR AVID TEACHER IF YOU ARE IN AVID

REGISTRATION SCHEDULE COUNSELORS WILL BE IN YOUR HISTORY OR GEOGRAPHY CLASSES TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AND PICK UP YOUR SIGNED PAPERWORK ON THE FOLLOWING DAYS: JUNIORS: MARCH 11 in US History classes MARCH 12 for those juniors who do not have US history this term (call in). SOPHOMORES: MARCH 13 / 14 in World History FRESHMEN: MARCH 18 / 19 in World Geography You can also turn in signed, completed forms to the counseling office on or before March 21st. NO FORM = COUNSELORS CHOOSE YOUR CLASSES
