5. Installing the RG Removing the rear cover • Rear cover clips on to main cabinet hook at the bottom and 2 latches (B & C) • Pressing latches B & C releases the rear cover • Removing rear cover exposes: • Connectors • Buttons • Identification label

Installing the RG Switches A = Forced Reload switch • To reload and set to factory defaults: • Encryption key • RG-1000 Identifier • User-set parameters are lost and have to be re-entered B = Reset switch • To recover from a situation where the RG-1000 is in a deadlock • Performing a reset will stop all network communications (for a few minutes).

8. Installing the RG Connecting cables • Remove the rear cover • When phone connection to the ISP is required connect the telephone cable to the RJ11 connector (RG-1000 only) • If required (Cable modem, hub) connect the UTP cable to the RJ45 connector • Connect the Power adapter to the power connector • Route the cables through the opening in the rear cover, and replace it RJ11 Power RJ45

9. Installing the RG Wall mounting • RG-1000/RG-1100 can be used table-mounted or wall mounted • For wall mounting: • Remove the rear cover • Identify the pre-set locations in the rear cover to drill hole through • Connect the rear cover to the wall using the supplied screws and plugs • Connect the cables to the RG • Clip the RG to the rear cover

10. Installing the RG Powering up • With all cables connected plug-in the power adapter • Monitor the activity of the LEDs on the RG-1000. • will change color in the range Orange, Red and Green. • within a minute the power LED turns steady green • other LEDs are flashing green or off

Configuring the RGSet-up utility prerequisites • Windows 95/98/2000 • Free hard disk space of at least 5 MB • Installed ORiNOCO PC Card or installed Ethernet NIC • Connection between RG-1000 and configurator station (wireless or wired) • Common sub net for RG-1000 and PC that hosts the setup utility

Configuring the RGInstall the set-up utility • All ORiNOCO software will be delivered on CD-ROM with built-in EZInstall feature • CD-ROM contains • PC Card Driver software • Utility software (such as the RG Setup) • Extras • Follow instructions on different screens generated by EZInstall: • “Install a Product” • “Install Base Station” • “Install Residential Gateway” • “Install Software” • “Install RG Setup utility” • This installs: • Java Runtime Environment • ORiNOCO RG-1000 Setup Utility in c:\program files\ORiNOCO\RG

Configuring the RGRunning the set-up utility - Start up screen • Assure that RG is physically “connected” to station that runs the RG setup utility: • wireless • wired via cross-over or hub • Assure to be in the same sub-net: • use DHCP service of the RG (release IP and renew) • set IP address in range of that of the RG (default IP address 10.0.1.1) • Start RG setup utility: • Will start Java Runtime routines • Will show the “Welcome” screen

Configuring the RGRunning the set-up utility - Identify the RG • Enter the RG identifier that is on the label at the bottom or on the back of the device: • Remove the rear portion of the RG-1000 to gain access • ID consists of 6 digits (= the last 6 digits of the ORiNOCO PC Card inside the RG) • Click “Continue” initiates a scan; loads the RG config file

15. Configuring the RGIdentify the type of Internet connection • When the RG-1000 is located and config file loaded, user can enter/change parameters • Identify country from where the operation is conducted: • Select country name from drop list

16. Configuring the RGIdentify the type of Internet connection • Select the type of communication device used to connect to the Internet: • Select choice from drop list: • Telephone line • ADSL (PPPoE) • Cable modem • ISDN/DSL device • LAN Infrastructure • No Internet

Configuring the RG Set parameters for telephone (RG-1000 only) • Selecting “Telephone Line” requires additional parameters: • Telephone number of ISP host to dial • Account name used during login • Password used during login • Time of no-activity (minutes) • Dialing mode (Tone or Pulse dialing) • Automatic dialing (Yes/No as selected from drop list), when set to No prevents unwanted phone connections as result of broadcast messages. Use manual connect/ disconnect selected from taskbar icon

18. Configuring the RG Set parameters for telephone (RG-1000 only) • Parameter “Your ISP” allows for execution of a user- (or ISP-) defined script-file tat is executed after phone line is connected • Script files (containing expect and send strings), when stored in sub-directory “....\RG\ISP”, will show up in the menu list (file name) • “Standard” is the default • “Current” is the script-file that was activated last time the RG was configured

Configuring the RG Set parameters for ADSL • Selecting “ADSL (PPPoE)” requires additional parameters: • Name of the ADSL service that is subscribed to • Account name used during login • Password used during login • Time of no-activity (minutes) • Type of connection: • Automatic (when required by browser) • Continuous (always connected) • On request (by user)

Configuring the RG Set parameters for Cable Modem • If ISP dynamically assigns addresses, select “Automatic” from the drop list • If ISP provides pre-set addresses select “Predefined” from the drop list. In this case additional fields appear to hold data provided by ISP: • IP address for the RG-1000 • IP address mask • Address of default router • DNS addresses

Configuring the RG Set parameters for ISDN/DSL • If ISP dynamically assigns addresses, select “Automatic” from the drop list • If ISP provides pre-set addresses select “Predefined” from the drop list. In this case additional fields appear to hold data provided by ISP: • IP address for the RG-1000 • IP address mask • Address of default router • DNS addresses

Configuring the RG Set parameters - LAN infrastructure • LAN Infrastructure can be selected in case the RG is part of a larger network where another Internet gateway is already present • NAT is switched off • The IP Address can be provided by a local DHCP server (setting = automatic) or pre-set: • IP address for the RG-1000 • IP address mask • Address of default router • DNS addresses

23. Configuring the RG Set parameters - No Internet access required • When “No Internet” is selected, all RG functions are operational except for the up-link connection. • In this set-up the RG acts as Access Point in a standalone network that is not connected to the Internet

Configuring the RG Reviewing the settings • Settings can be reviewed prior to uploading changes in the RG • Screen looks identical (as shown) for: • Cable Modem • ISDN/DSL Device • LAN Infrastructure • When user-defined IP settings are selected the “Overview of your Settings” screen will display: • IP address • Subnet Mask • Default router address • DNS addresses

25. Configuring the RG Reviewing the settings • If “Telephone Line” is selected, this screen shows: • Phone settings • Tone versus Pulse • On Command versus On request • ISP Phone number • User name • “hang-up after idle time” value

Configuring the RG Changing the Wireless connection parameters • Common parameter for • No Internet connection • LAN Infrastructure • Cable Modem • Telephone Line • DSL/ISDN device • ADSL • Frequency channel can be selected from drop-list: • A (Channel 1) = 2412 MHz • B (Channel 4) = 2427 MHz • C (Channel 7) = 2442 MHz • D (Channel 10) = 2457 MHz

Configuring the RG Changing the security parameters • Data traffic between wireless station and RG is encrypted using WEP 64 (WEP = Wired Equivalent Privacy) or 128 RC4 encryption • By default WEP64 is effectuated • The default encryption key consists of last 5 characters of the RG identification • Users can change the key after the initial installation to their liking (when using an RG1100 it is possible to enter 13-character keys; the RG1000 only accepts 5 character keys) • All users in the residential wireless network will have to use the same key

Configuring the RG Changing the access password • Access to configurator can be protected by user defined password • Default is off (public) • When passwords are entered user is prompted for the password before being able to obtain the configuration file Note: • When starting the set-up utility for the first time, the password is changed from “public” to the value of the RG identification • So when using a different tool then the set-up utility (e.g. the AP Manager) after having used the set-up utility, the RG identifier has to be used as SNMP password

31. Configuring the RG Advanced parameters • Additional changes can be made to the network topology settings selected from the last set-up utility screen • IP Ranges for local IP addresses (select from three ranges) • NAT can be switched on or of • Bridging can be switched on or off • Serving IP addresses can be disabled per interface (wireless or wired) • DNS addresses can be set when required by the ISP

32. Configuring the RG Re-load / re-boot • When parameters are reviewed they are uploaded to the RG-1000 • The RG-1000 will re-boot and re-establish its connection to the Internet (when selected as parameter) • Process can be followed by message flow in the status window

33. Configuring the RG Connected • Status of connection is listed in the status windows • When successfully completed pop-up message will appear to indicate so.

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - SW Installation • Using EZInstall: • Insert CD-ROM and let it auto start or execute the “Start.exe” program in the root of the CD-ROM (image) • Follow screen instructions: • Install Product • Install Base Station • Install Residential Gateway • Install Software • Follow screen instructions • Manual installation: • Browse through CD-ROM or its disk image (if downloaded to harddisk) • Locate directory “\software\AP\AP_mgr” • Execute “Setup.exe” • Follow screen instructions

36. Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - initial scan • AP Manager is developed initially for ORiNOCO AP-1000 and AP-500 • Starting the AP Manager triggers a “scan” showing the RGs on the same segment (and sub-net) • If same segment also includes OrINOCO AP-500 and AP-1000 devices, these show up in the scan list as well • Selecting an RG for configuration implies clicking its IP address (or entering it in the appropriate field) and click “Edit”

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - entering password • To access an RG for configuration, an Read/Write password has to be supplied: • Default password is “public” • Each time the Set-up utility (previous slides) is used when password is “public” the default password is changed to the RG identification (e.g. 23cc38) • The user can change the password to string selected

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - setting channel • When password is accepted, the configuration data from RG is retrieved • User is presented a screen with several tabs to select • First tab allows changes to the wireless interface: • Network name • Advanced paramaters • Security (encryption) settings • Clicking “Advanced” opens the Advanced dialog box to set: • Frequency channel • Cell -size (Distance between APs) • Multi-cast rate

39. Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - setting security • Clicking “Security” opens the security dialog box to set: • Up to 4 encryption keys • Index number to active transmit key • Keys can be entered as ASCII string or in hexadecimal format • To enter hex format, the string has to start with 0x • Key length depends on capability of RG: • RG-1000: 5 ASCII characters or 10 Hex characters • RG-1100: 5 or 13 ASCII characters, or 10 or 26 Hex characters • If long keys are used all clients that wirelessly communicate with the RG need to be capable of handling long keys (Gold cards)

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - RG IP setting • The IP address of the RG can be set by entering the value or assigned by DHCP server (RG uses its DHCP client) • If assigned by a DHCP server, user can select on what interface the DHCP server should be found: • Wireless • Wired

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - SNMP setting • On the SNMP tab following settings can be made: • Read Password (default = public) • Read/Write Password (default = public) • Name of person that maintains the device • System name • System location Note: • The system name contains as part of the string, the RG identification (e.g. 23cc38) • The set-up utility (previous slides) looks for the RG identification in this string; changing the name (removing the RG identification) will disable the proper operation of the set-up utility

42. Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - Access Control • To restrict access to the RG to a group of known wireless stations, their MAC addresses can be recorded in the RG • When done so, Access Control is enabled and only stations with PC Cards with a MAC address that is recorded in the list will be granted access

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - Ethernet Interface • The Ethernet Interface tab allows configuration of the wired interface • In addition ADSL related settings can be made on this tab: • Enable the use of ADSL (activating PPPoE) • When ADSL is enabled Account information can be entered by clicking Setup: • Service name • User name • Password • Type of connection can be configured as well: • Connect on (user) command • Connect on (application) demand • Always on (force connection)

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - modem setup • The modem setup tab allows for setting various phone connection items: • Enabling/disabling • Type of dialing (tone or pulse) • Type of connection: • Calling on (user) demand • Calling on (application) command • Phone number to dial • Idle timeout value • User name and Password • Expect strings

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - DHCP server • The DHCP server tab allows changes to change the way IP addresses are issued to clients • Type of interface on which IP addresses are issued: • Ethernet • Wireless • The IP pool of addresses that are offered • DNS information that is supplied with the IP address to a client that requests an IP address

46. Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - Outgoing NAT • On the Outgoing NAT tab the user can specify: • a specific Public IP address (to be accessed by global systems) and subnet mask • a specific Private (local) IP address (to be used by the local devices)

Configuring the RG (alternative)Using the AP Manager - monitoring • Using the AP manager several sets of tallies can be viewed for analysis • Monitor mode is entered by: • Selecting the RG to monitor from the scan list • Click the Monitor button • Each tab on the monitor screen will show specific tallies as listed • Remote link test can be executed between the RG and any attached ORiNOCO wireless device

Using the RG Profile Manager(only for RG-1000) - Operation • Utility shows up as a “telephone” icon on the task bar • The icon shows the state of the phone connection (on all wirelessly attached clients that have the tool installed): • Green lights and receiver lifted: connected • Flashing lights with receiver lifted: dialing • Receiver on hook: no phone connection • Right click on the icon displays the menu: • Scan for RG-1000s • Connect • Help • Profiles can be selected from the list and create a connection without changing the configuration of the RG-1000

50. Using the RG Profile Manager(only for RG-1000) - Creating profiles • Clicking Add/Edit allows for addition and changing of profiles • Information to be entered (following a 3-screen wizard): • Name of the profile • Option to disable other users to select this specific ISP • Phone number • Account name • Password • DNS addresses (if required) • IP address (if required)
