Life of an Ocelot • Mates year-round • About 70 days after mating, female gives birth to one to three young • Live more than 20 years • Lives in tropical warm areas • reach adult size at about 8-10 months old. • They disperse from the natal range at approximately two years of age. • An ocelot is sexually mature at 18 months

  5. Habitat • Can be found in Arizona and Texas south to Argentina • Found in very diverse habitats including • Rain forest • Montane forest • Thick bush • Semi-desserts • Costal marsh • Along river banks but never in open country

  6. Habitat When mating, the female will find a den in a cave in a rocky bluff, a hollow tree, or a dense (preferably thorny) thicket

  9. Protection • International trade is banned under the Appendix I and the U.S. Endangered Species List • Translocation • Preservation of brush habitat and the creation of corridors between remaining habitat patches • Building of road underpasses • Banning of traps and snares
