  12. PAGE 3 Travel Signature Endorsement must be less than 6 months old when you travel Travel Signature

  13. I-94 CARD Duration of Status Must say F-1 and D/S • Print your name as it is written on your Form I-20 • If only one name, print in Family name block, & enter FNU in First Name field • Spacing is important! • No Hyphens (-) permitted! Back side- should have your SEVIS number written

  14. Immigration Regulations • What should I do to Maintain my “Legal Status”? • File Required IRS forms, even if you did not make any income • Report address changes (in 10 days) • Do not work illegally! • ENROLL FULL-TIME!!! Do not drop below a full-course load before letting us know first.

Immigration Regulations • What is full-time according to immigration regulations? • Minimum 9 credits every semester • If enrolled for two consecutive semesters, you can take the third semester off while maintaining matriculation • When transferring to another school consult with us. • Get a new I-20 or DS-2019 if you change your degree program or education level (example Bus. Adm. Taxation; from MBA to MS or Certificate.

Immigration Regulations • Words of Wisdom Regarding Immigration issues: • Never go to or call IRS, USCIS (Immigration) or any Federal Office without consulting us first! • Include Bank, SSA and DMV above • Consult with us first regarding immigration issues and then listen to friends, family etc. Immigration is a complex thing. Not two individuals will have the same cases.

  17. Health Insurance • Federal & Fordham Requirement is to have health insurance • You are automatically billed for FORDHAM INTERNATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE • Annual Cost: $1134 • $378 ea. Trimester • Fall (August 23, 2010 to January 3, 2011) • Spring (January 3, 2011 to April 24, 2011) • Summer (April 25, 2011 to August 23, 2011)

Health Insurance • Waiving Fordham Health Insurance online is possible and must complete 2 step process: (1) online (2) in-person • Deadline to waive online: Sept 15, 2010 • Fordham Insurance ID Cards mailed, brochures available to print after online registration • Federal & Fordham Requirement to have insurance

Then click on “Health Insurance Info”. • Click on the “SECURE Insurance registration process” and follow instructions. • Direct link is: https://secure.visitaci.com/insurance/Fordham/

  26. Dependent Coverage Option • If you wish to purchase coverage for a dependent, select the Add Dependent button and enter the information for your dependent • If you have no dependents to add, click Next Page

  28. Confirm Enrollment Page • The premium charge confirms the amount already billed on your Student Account • Confirm your Enrollment into the Student Insurance Plan

  36. Your waiver application is not complete until your policy has been reviewed by the International Office at Fordham.

  37. Waiver Process Instructions: • Complete the on-line insurance waiver request • Print out a copy of your completed waiver request (Print the final page of this process) • Obtain an English copy of your insurance policy • Highlight the Policy Maximum, the Deductible amount, and the Medical Evacuation and Repatriation benefit amounts. • Take the English copy of your insurance policy to the Office of International Services (OIS) along with your printed copy of your completed waiver request for their review within 5 days of completing this process (entire process must be completed before September 15, 2010). • Failure to completely follow these instructions will result in the Student Insurance charge remaining on your Student Account.

  42. Banking • Open a checking account • We will give you a letter if desired • You can open one without a SS#, but some banks (Chase for instance) charge extra to do a background check without SS#. The ones that do not have such a policy as far as we know: • Citibank • Bank of New York • Wachovia

Cell Phones and Credit Cards • What to do? • Fordham Ram Cell • Prepaid cards • How to build a credit history? • Open Checking account • Secure credit card • Be selective, be aware of interest rates & fees • Social Security number and cell phone company • Establish good credit habits as soon as possible

  44. Driver’s Licenses and ID Cards Apply for license at NY Dept of Motor Vehicles (DMV) : • Social Security card (2 points). If not eligible get letter from SS Office that states ineligible for Social #. Letter shouldn’t be more than 30 days old. • Proof of Identification = 6 points Total including Proof of Date of Birth How to get 6 points if no Social Security Number: • Passport, Visa, I-94, I-20 = 3 points (Proof of Date of Birth) • Health Insurance card, Utility bill = 1 point EACH • ONE of the following items: Bank statement, Cancelled check, US credit card = 1 point TOTAL After one semester: US College ID & Official Transcript = 2 points NY ID Cards (not for driving): Same as above (4 pts + SS# or SS denial letter + 6 pts)

  45. Social Security Cards • As of October 2004, F-1 students could not receive SS# unless they have employment authorization and/or job offer. • OIS will help you obtaining services which “demand presenting a SS#” • SS# >>>>> U.S. Credit History

  47. CPT • Must be a requirement for degree (see School Catalog) Or Receiving academic credit for the employment Request info. on Tutorials from the office of Dean Lipper • Do not begin work until CPT is approved

  48. OPT • Must be a related to your field of study. • 12 month period after completion of your study • Before and or After Completion of studies • You must apply between 90 days before your graduation (completion) date and up until 60 days following your completion date. • Takes about 2 to 3 months to receive authorization, so apply early.
