  6. Observation #1 Unimak Pass transits are under-reported due to timing of data query.

  7. Observation #2 Eastbound Unimak Pass Great Circle traffic is only a fraction of Westbound traffic

  9. Observation #3 About 17% of Unimak Pass Great Circle traffic originates from California. Our original analysis did pick up on this.

  11. Local Traffic Includes • ADF&G Enforcement • Aleutian Trade Act Freighters • Container Ships • Fishing Vessels (400) • Ocean Research • Product Tanker (1) • Reefer Cargo • Towing Vessels

Large Vessels Calling at Aleutian Ports • 70 container ship calls with a typical fuel capacity of 1.8 million gallons of persistent • 200 reefer/tramper ships port calls with a typical fuel capacity of 300,000 gallons • AIS Scotch Cap data reports about 900 Unimak Pass transits by ‘local traffic’; over 700 of which were fishing vessels

  14. Foreign Vessel Casualties(1991-2004) • Forty-five (45) foreign vessel casualties • These reports to the Coast Guard included 16 loss of maneuverability incidents. • We believe that foreign vessel casualties are probably under reported;

  15. US Vessel Casualties(1990-2005) • 413 casualties effecting seaworthiness reported to USCG • Vessels usually smaller than foreign vessel incidents, mostly fishing vessels
