PDHPE in Context • PDHPE is an important part of the syllabus and can be integrated into many parts of the curriculum. • PDHPE is also a major factor in the “Active body, active mind” thesis.
Teaching Rationale • The teaching rationale for PDHPE is the reason and justifications for this particular subject being included in the syllabus.
Why should PDHPE be included in the curriculum? • Promotes a healthy body and healthy mind. • There is compulsory hours of physical activity every week according to the Department of Education • In addition to this, physical activity is a good way to get students to burn off extra energy allowing them to concentrate in the classroom better.
Continued… • There are many changes that students will go through in this stage of learning including: Physical, emotional and social. It is important that students are properly prepared for these changes. • It is important for the students to develop the skills that they will learn from the material, such as: inter and intra personal relationshjps, team building and leadership.
PDHPE is important and can have an impact on all facets of the curriculum. • The PDHPE curriculum has the potential to be integrated with others such as ICT, Numeracy and Literacy. • It is this integration combined with the versatility and ease of integration that makes it essential that PDHPE is taught to all students.
