This study investigates the impact of Storm-Enhanced Density (SED) phenomena on the mid-latitude ionosphere, particularly during the events of March 18-19, 1990. Utilizing data from the MIT Haystack Observatory and Millstone Hill radar observations, we analyze the role of penetrating electric fields in energizing particles, modifying the plasmasphere, and affecting the equatorial ionosphere. Key findings include the formation of detached plasmas and enhancements in Total Electron Content (TEC) due to the overlap of penetration jets with the outer plasmasphere, leading to significant ionospheric disturbances.
