  1. ENROLLED NURSING Enrolled Nurses have been part of the Australian health care system since the late 1940s. The vital role of both the Registered and Enrolled Nurse in the delivery of health care continues to be recognised by governments and the community. Historically, Enrolled Nurses have held a variety of titles, encompassing many and varied roles and responsibilities in the workplace. The educational preparation of Enrolled Nurses varies between States and Territories across Australia. Some of the differences in curricula relate to variations in the scope of practice of Enrolled Nurses - principally the extent to which Enrolled Nurses are able to administer medicines independent of the supervision of a Registered Nurse, as set down in regulations governing the type of medication Enrolled Nurses are allowed to administer. Enrolled Nurses provide nursing care to clients with a stable condition under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse. Employment opportunities for Enrolled Nurses (Medication Endorsed) exist in nursing homes, hospitals and the mental health, acute care and community settings. Successful completion of the certificate may also allow entry into a nursing degree with 'credit' and/or 'advanced standing'.

  2. On successful completion of TAFE Tasmania’s course, participants will be eligible for registration as an Enrolled Nurse (Medication Endorsed) with the Nursing Board of Tasmania (NBT). Registration with the NBT is dependent on applicants addressing specific criteria with registration charges applicable. TAFE Tasmania delivers Enrolled Nurse training (Certificate IV in Health (Nursing)) on-campus, incorporating practical work placements across the State. The one-year training program is delivered in the South through the Clarence Campus, in the North at the Alanvale Campus and in the North West through the Devonport Campus. The number of students undertaking training is limited by the need for appropriate practical placements. TAFE Tasmania maintains strong links to key stakeholders including the Department of Health and Human Services and the Nursing Board of Tasmania, to ensure delivery models are in line with sector needs and the amount of training delivered meets demand. Further training pathways can include Bachelor of Nursing qualifications.
