Introduction • Years of exploration:970-1020 • Born: Born in Iceland in the year of 970 A.D. • Country who sent Leif: Iceland • Person who sent Leif: Bjarni Herjulfusson • Goal of voyage: The Viking population was getting out of control, so they needed more land to settle & Leif wanted to eplore North America.

  3. Exploration • What did he find and what was achieved: He found the United States 500 years before Christopher Columbus. He was the first to step foot in America. • Natives there first: Europeans were there first. • Did the trip affect the world and what were the consequences: Leif discovered the 7 continents & he really didn’t have a bad time because his weather was so good.

  6. Conclusion • What we learned: we learned that Leif discovered America before Christopher Columbus & that America was originally called Vinland because of all its vast grape vines. He got married to a lady named Thorgunna. And that when Leif was ten he got an expensive dagger.

  7. Conclusion • Interesting facts: While Leif was going back to Iceland his ship got blown over in a storm and that’s how he discovered North America. His name is spelled three different ways and his nickname is Leif the Lucky because he almost never got bad weather. • How he has been honored: He has a day called Leif Ericsson day, he has a stamp with his pic on it, two coins with his pic on it, and a monument in Chicago.
