  3. Renaissance Market Towns • Settle was one of the first towns to join the programme in 2003 • Settle Area Renaissance Team (StART) • Community Consultation led to initial business plan • Priority projects for Yorkshire Forward funding • Project delivery by local authority

  4. Aims of the Riverside Project • Develop stronger links between the Riverside and Settle Town Centre

  10. Project Development • Consultation event held in January 2007 • 46 in broad support, 53 in support with minor amendments and 9 against.

  13. Project Funding • Craven District Council secured £125,000 Yorkshire Forward investment. • Lack of identified match funding. • Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust asked to work with CDC, NYCC and YF to raise match funding.

  14. Funding Breakdown • Yorkshire Forward £125,000.00 • Natural England Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund £78,631.71 • Craven District Council £25,000.00 • Lafarge Landfill Communities Fund £20,000.00 • North Yorkshire County Council £14,594.54 (plus project management)

  15. Construction • Started on site end of February 2009 • Initial work included some tree removal • Always looks worse than it is • Lots of local interest

Outputs • Cycle way @ 2.5m wide = 650m (or 1625sq m)  • Dry stone wall 85m @ up to 1.7m high  • Miscellaneous wall repairs 20m  • Riverbank protection measures 50m  • Bridge deck cleaning and re-surfacing 30m   • One Stile preserved and rebuilt • Three lighting columns installed • Re-soiling and seeding 1700sq m  • Five new finger post signs installed • Three interpretation panels installed  • TOTAL COST £263,226.24

  17. Future Opportunities • The work delivered so far is only part of the wider scheme devised by Camlin Lonsdale. • Linkages with Gisburn Forest, Lancashire. • Linkages with Settle Hydro. • Links to the Yorkshire Dales National Park

  18. Lessoned Learned • Identify delivery organisation as soon as possible. • Work with the delivery organisation / landowner to develop the scheme. • Flexibility was the key to success. • Value of the public / private / voluntary partnership.
