  5. What can schools do to improve student achievement? • Hire and retain more teachers and support staff • More career and college preparation • More focus on ELL (English Language Learner) programs • More after-school programs and clubs • Smaller class sizes/reduce combo classes

  6. School Climate • Safety-related facility upgrades • 2. More staff • 3. Enhance bullying prevention programs • 4. Evaluate policies related to suspension • 5. More communication between parents • and school staff

  7. What can schools to do to help improve attendance? • Offer incentives/rewards for good attendance • Offer more electives and fun activities: trades, career development, drama, art, clubs, field trips • Saturday/Sunday/Summer school

  10. 2014-15 New Expenditure Recommendations for LCAP • Based on stakeholder input and state priorities • LCAP is Targeted at unduplicated student count (Free/Reduced, English Language Learners, Foster Students) • Focused on identified student needs • Some projects/services funded by other sources (Title 1, Grants, COE…) • Things to remember—this is all new, 1 year of an ongoing 3 year plan

Student Achievement • Hire additional Teacher at Smith River --$84,000 • Hire Pre School Teacher and two Instructional Assistants--$88,000 • Reinstituted K-12 Summer School--$32,000 • Hire an additional Bilingual Instructional Assistant --$16,000 • Library Materials District wide $25,000 • Hire additional ELD teacher at Crescent Elk (.5 Fte)- $42,000
