Hera • Goddess of women and marriage, and sky and starry heavens • Latin Name: Hera • Greek Name: Juno • Parents: Kronos and Rhea • Born on the Island of Crete • I chose this picture because this picture depicts Hera sitting upon her thrown. She has beautiful and fancy clothes, and she is crowned and holding a staff, like she is in most pictures. I also like the colors in the background. The design gives it the effect of mystery. She is also the goddess of marriage, which would explain her beautiful clothes since she must bless those getting married with good luck and possibly beauty. That is why I chose this picture. Hera (cont.) • Attributes: usually depicted as a beautiful woman wearing a crown and holding a royal, lotus-tipped staff, also described as cow-eyed; the peacock, cow, crow and pomegranate for fertility • She sometimes took the form of royal lion, cuckoo, or hawk • I chose this picture because Hera is wearing a beautiful dress. This picture is so detailed that you can realistically see all the folds in her dress. She is also wearing her crown and is holding her royal staff, sitting on her thrown.
