Enhancing Machine Translation with Linguistic Structure and Bilingual Informants

This study explores the integration of linguistic structures and the contributions of bilingual informants in the automatic induction of machine translation systems, specifically for lesser-resourced languages. We discuss methodologies, including the ParaMor algorithm for unsupervised paradigm morphology induction and the effectiveness of syntax rule induction and refinement. The findings highlight significant advancements in translating between languages like English and Spanish, as well as in indigenous languages, ensuring better accuracy and understanding through innovative machine learning approaches.
