Registration of Aircraft-1(SI 634 of 2005) • All aircraft must be registered in a State and carry that State ‘s national registration letters and the aircraft registration letters issued by that State. • Generally the registration code comprises 5 letters, 1-2 for the state registration and 3-4 for the aircraft registration letters, with a hyphen separating the two groups • Ireland national registration letters are EI, and three aircraft identification letters e.g. EI-LFC • France national aircraft regis F e.g. F-GYDD • American aircraft have a 6-character registration e.g. N172AM • The complete aircraft registration shall be inscribed - internally on a fireproof plate in a prominent position – near the main entrance in a large aircraft, on the control panel in a small one - externally on the underside of awing and EITHER on BOTH SIDES of the fuselage astern of the wings or on BOTH SIDES of the vertical fin • the size of the letters should be at least 50cm on the wings and 30cm on the fuselage/tail fin • the letters should be as clearly visible as possible, i.e. maximum colour contrast with the background paintwork.

  2. 12. Registration of Aircraft-2 Registration conditions The IAA is responsible for registering Irish aircraft. The following people or organisations request the addition of an aircraft on the Irish Register:- • An Irish or an EEC citizen who is resident or has a place of business in Ireland • A company registered and with a place of business in Ireland, and with its head office, chairman and two-thirds of its Directors Irish or EEC citizens • In the case of an aircraft obtained by an individual or company as above under a hire purchase agreement, registration is subject to any conditions laid down by the IAA • Other nationals living in Ireland or running an overseas business based in Ireland, or companies not meeting the above conditions may register an aircraft in Ireland, but it must not be used for any kind of commercial work and the IAA may lay down other conditions as well

Registration of Aircraft-3 Certificate of Registration This will contain the following information about the aircraft: • Name and address of the legal owner or any person with a legal interest in the aircraft or in the case of a leased or hired aircraft, the person or organisation from which the aircraft is leased or hired • The State and aircraft registration letters • The manufacturers name and aircraft type • The aircraft serial number • The Certificate of Registration number The Certificate of Registration • Cannot be transferred • Becomes void if the aircraft registration is cancelled • Must be surrendered to the IAA on request • It or a copy must be carried on the aircraft at all times
