  2. Safety • Approach each activity with safety in mind. • If you do not remain healthy, your ability to function effectively in the field will be limited. • Safety is the primary consideration for the professional oil burner technician.

  3. Staying Safe on the Job • One of the most common cause of injuries on the job is carelessness. • Remain focused on the job at all times. • Be aware of your surroundings. • You must “work at safety” at all times.

  4. Stay Focused – Don’t Take Risks

  5. Attitude • Attitude is described as how you approach your job and those around you. • Having a good attitude describes a person who is courteous, considerate and concerned about what is going around him. • This person is also recognized for his overall conduct, appearance and workspace organization. • Arrogance has no place in our industry.

  6. “Having an attitude” can be a good thing if you have the right kind!

  7. Knowledge • Know about tool usage, system operations and potential hazardous situations. • Knowing proper system operation can keep you safe on the job. • Unfamiliar sounds may alert you to unsafe system conditions. • Increase system knowledge by reading manuals and literature that come with the equipment.

  8. Use Tools Properly to Avoid Personal Injury!

  9. Learn to Identify Potential Hazards Oils spills can result in slip and fall accidents. Tools lying on the floor can cause you to trip and fall. Uncovered electric boxes create the potential for electric shock. Improperly secured piping materials can fall, causing severe injury.

  10. PAINT Identifying Hazards Helps Prevent Accidents

  11. Clothing Requirements Proper clothing helps you stay safe: Do not wear loose fitting clothing. Wear long pants and long sleeved shirts; keep shirts tucked into pants. If you have anything (ID Badge, Tie, etc.) around your neck, tuck it into your shirt. Remove jewelry when possible. Wear rubber-soled, steel-toed work boots. Tie back long hair.

  12. Personal Protection Equipment Protect your hands, eyes, ears, lungs, head and back by using the proper safety equipment. Evaluate the situation before attempting to lift heavy objects. Electricity-related injuries are often unexpected and can be very serious. Use high quality test instruments when working on electric circuits.

  15. Examples of Mechanical Lifting Aids: • Hand trucks, fork lifts, and rollers are excellent lifting and carrying aids for large items.
