The National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, is the agency responsible for Curriculum Development, Review and Updating in Nigeria.
The NBTE focuses its curriculum activities on programmes that: 1. help in the development of the socio- cultural and economic values of the Nation2. will assist youths in equipping them with new skills, knowledge and ideals
Curriculum Development Process Preparation of initial draft of curricula . Review of the initial draft at a Pre-Critique Workshop A National critique workshop involving international consultants finalizes the curriculum Distribution of the curricula to institutions for implementation in hard and soft copies
NBTE Curriculum design ensures: The curriculum is competence-based, including life skills The curriculum is more Practical-oriented There is provision of clear guidelines of teacher activities The curriculum is more learner-centred, there is provision of clear guidelines on learner- experiences ICT and Entrepreneurship education are incorporated

Challenges of the New curricula • The major challenge of the use of the new curricula is the availability of teaching/instructional materials • Under the UNESCO-Nigeria TVE revitalization project, NBTE-UNESCO organised two workshops for the development of teaching/instructional materials for use with the curricula
Instructional Materials Development Workshops • First workshop was, December 2008, for 7 disciplines which produce over 240 e-books for 147 subjects. • The Second was held in June 2009, for 6 disciplines. About 110 e-books are currently being developed for about 101 subjects.
Process of Developing Instructional Materials • Identification experts, those involved in delivering the new curricula • Special meeting to instruct and evaluate progress • Production of Draft Materials • Workshop with international consultants • Follow-up to finalise documents • Production of produced materials
Conclusion • 83 TVE Curricula Developed/Reviewed • 246 e-books produced, 110 under development • Focus: All TVE to be Reviewed • Develop Instructional Materials for all
