  1. RED HAT Emotions http://www.teachnet-uk.org.uk/2004%20Projects/CC-Thinking%20Hats/thinking-hats/index.htm

  2. How do you feel about the situation? • What do you know about it so far? • How do you think the French government is reacting? • How do other people in the group feel?

  3. YELLOW HAT OPTIMISM

  4. Perhaps you are a bit of an optimist, you see the positive side of any situation. • So it is perhaps difficult to make a decision about measures the government has taken already, as you can see many good propositions already. • So you need to put yourself in the position of people concerned by the problem. • Is enough being done ? • Is it effective? How ? Why ?

  5. BLACK HAT Pessimism Problems logic

  6. You look on the cautious side of things. You feel that whatever decision have been made, there are always problems resulting from them, or obstacles in the way. • What are the problems associated with campaigns or laws already implemented in France? • Think of the increase in drug taking in the last few years. What sort of problems have appeared ? You could range from health problems to social problems, personal safety to consequences suffered by others. How difficult are these problems for the French government to resolve?

  7. WHITE HAT Neutral Factual

  8. This symbolises a neutral advisor – you do not take sides according to how you are feeling. What you are interested in is impartial facts and figures to help you sort out whether the French government is addressing the problem effectively or not. • You need to try to pick up on factual evidence about the law, the help provided for people with drug problems (from the government or other organisations) and any prevention campaign in existence.

  9. GREEN HAT Creativity

  10. You are the lateral thinker here, trying to find how the government is helping, but you need to first identify the problems and then look at the help/support/prevention laws/campaign on offer. Then start “Thinking outside the box” – so to get you started – • Does the government do enough (what, how, where)? • Are some organisations helping (effective or not)? • What is already in place (what format)? • What is the impact of it? • Is it targeting the right people? • According to research, surveys, reports…is it effective, why?

  11. BLUE HAT Summarise Synthesis

  12. This is where you have to organise and evaluate the information from the different perspectives studied and presented by all members of the group. • After you have seen “presentations” on all of the 5 aspects and have had a chance to discuss the various views, all materials will be shared in order to produce your own personal argument. • Help with range of lexis (written Vs spoken French) • Oral marking scheme
