  2. Asking what time it is • The question is: “¿Quéhoraes?” • To answer, say: “Son las____: ____” for everything except times during the One O’clock hour. • For the One O’clock hour time block, use: “Es la una…y/menos____.”

  3. How it works… • Imagine the clock is divided in half, from 12 to 6. • On the right-hand side, you will add minutes to the current hour using “y”. This includes the half hour mark. • On the left-hand side, you will subtract minutes from the upcoming hour using “menos”. Current hour Y Minutes Next hour Menos Minutes

  4. Mediodía/ Medianoche • Media = Half • Used for ___:30 • It is ok to say “treinta” • Cuarto = quarter • Used with Y for ___:15 • Used with MENOS for ___:45 • It is ok to say “quince” • En punto = “on the dot” Cuarto Media • El mediodía = noon • La medianoche= midnight

  5. A.M. and P.M. • De la mañana • Used from 12:00 a.m. to noon • De la tarde • Used from noon until sundown • De la noche • Used from sundown until 11:59 p.m.

  7. Asking at what time an event takes place • Start with: “¿A quéhoraes…?” • Then, name the event. • Porejemplo: • ¿A quéhoraes la clase de español? • ¿A quéhoraes la fiesta? • ¿A quéhoraes el concierto?

To answer… • Start with: “Es…” • Then, use “A la…” for an event during the One O’clock hour, and “A las…” for all other times. • Porejemplo: • ¿A quéhoraes la clase de español? • Es a las 7 y media de la mañana. • O… Es a las 8 y media de la mañana. • ¿A quéhoraes la fiesta? • Es a las 10 de la noche. • ¿A quéhoraes el concierto? • Es a las 8 de la noche.
