  5. HOW do the HEADLINE and the IMAGE • Link to the text?

  6. Thoughts / Feelings / Emotions of a writer and how • they are expressed? • Compare the use of LANGUAGE in this source and • another of your choice.

  7. SECTION B : Writing – Creating Written Texts 1. Shorter Writing Question 2. Longer Writing Question These questions may ask the pupils to be able to effectively write to: Describe / Argue / Persuade / Advise / Inform / Explain. The questions will also ask pupils to write across a range of formats: Letters / Adverts / Advice sheets / Article / “Blogs”

In order to aid pupils with their revision and re-enforce their learning, as a faculty we have invested a substantial amount of money in purchasing the pupils CGP English Language Exam Workbooks for every child. These books have been given to the pupils and are to be used both in class and at home.

  10. On Tuesday evenings after school the English faculty provides revision classes to support pupils with specific targets. Support is also given by teachers at lunchtime and after school by arrangement.

  11. Cambridge iGCSE English (relevant information for if your child is in SET 4-6)

  12. Cambridge IGCSE is internationally recognised by schools, universities and employers as equivalent to UK GCSE. Cambridge IGCSE is excellent preparation for A/AS Level, the Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), US Advanced Placement Programme and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.   13. Cambridge iGCSE: A*- C = 76% 41 pupils of the 54 entered for the Cambridge iGCSE gained a C Grade. (76%) 24 pupils (11 boys/13 girls) who failed to gain a C in AQA, gained a C in the iGCSE. The iGCSE was most effective in Sets 4 and 5 where only 7 pupils out of 54 taking the AQA Route gained a C grade. (13%)

  14. CAMBRIDGE iGCSEENGLISH - The Exam - 1 hour 45 mins Worth 40% of their overall grade (20% Speaking and Listening , 40% Controlled Assessment)

  15. Candidates take: Paper 1: Reading Passage 1 hour 45 minutes Candidates then answer a writing question based on the theme of the passage.

  16. Candidates take: Paper 1: Reading Passage 1 hour 45 minutes And: Component 4: Coursework Portfolio Candidates submit three assignments, each of 500–800 words. 40% of total marks. And: Component 5: Speaking and Listening Approx. 10–12 minutes Individual Task and Discussion. 20% of total marks.
