Alaska’s Islands & Ocean visitor center. • In real world terms, litter is the cigarette butts, soda cans, coffee cups, beer bottles, plastic bags, gum wrappers and various other items we may see alongside a road, blown up against a fence or swirling around an empty lot, litter is waste disposed in the wrong place by unlawful human action and can vary in size

  5. Iditarod athletes star during the sunny months too • polluting the water supply • Causes diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery. • Litter can harm the environment such as • Animals may get trapped or poisoned with litter in their habitats

  7. Action To Take • Penalties — On the Spot Fines • Jail Time serve • Community Service

  8. Simple Action • Set an example by not littering. • Dispose of trash properly. Recycle any materials that can be recycled and dispose of the rest in a garbage can. • When you visit a park or beach, remember to take out what you bring in.

  9. More Involvement • Participate in and promote litter or recycling programs. • Contact city officials if there not enough trash bin at your local parks, public areas, etc.
