  2. Executive Summary Briefly explain product, idea, or service, target market, or anything else of pertinence. Example: “Coyotes all along the desert southwest continually die (and get laughed at by children) in their foolish attempts to use archaic, lethal and overly-complex mechanical designs to find and kill roadrunners. My Widget will displace the sub-quality units that Coyotes currently purchase from ACME, allowing them to more efficiently and less humorously feed themselves delicious meals.”

  3. Background Information • What does the world currently do? • List short bullet items that give an overview of the market (existing buyers and products) so that an uninformed person can get a general sense of the state of the industry you’re proposing to enter. • Identify potential deficiencies in existing products or otherwise that illustrate the opportunity to “disrupt” the status quo. • This can be more than one slide, but stay focused. • Breaking new ground (having people do new behaviors) where there is no background is OK, but understand this is very risky.

  4. Proposed Solution • What does your product do? • How does it do it? • Highlight other areas that demonstrate benefits. • Cite any existing data (studies, research, media reports, etc) that might support your proposal. • This series of slides can be as long as you need, but this presentation is 3 minutes long. • Don’t be too confident in your idea. It’s OK to not know everything; you can say “I don’t know” to some questions. Remember, all ideas evolve before the business is successful. • Your goal is to attract others with innovative ideas to contribute to the team. You don’t want “workers.”

  5. Personal Background • What is your personal background or experience that lead you to this idea. It’s OK if don’t have any, and intuition is fine. But the most successful ideas come from those with long histories of working with something that gives them insight and vision. • List your major, year in school, college affiliation • Optionally offer any relevant information that demonstrates your aptitude for entrepreneurship.

  6. Who You Need • Computer Programmers? • Business majors? • Art majors? • Web designers?

  7. NOTES • This template has no colors or design. You should learn powerpoint (or any other product) very well! Use this opportunity to choose a “gallery” style that’s thematically consistent with your idea. Also use the features in the formatting palette to add more creative depth. • When you’re done speaking, ask for questions. • Always repeat questions before answering so that everyone in the room knows what was asked. • Always maintain eye contact, and be audible and articulate. Believe me, this will kill you otherwise.
