  2. revolution-The overthrow of a system of government and the setting up of a new or different system of government. (p.288) • The revolution was won by the soldiers in the South.

  3. tyranny-The unjust use of power; harsh or cruel government. (p.291) The country suffered for thirty years under the tyranny of their harsh dictator.

  4. congress- An assembly of people who make the laws. (p. 292) • Congress is essentially charged with reconciling our many points of view on the great public policy issues of the day.

  5. militia- A group of citizens trained to fight and help in emergencies. (p. 296) • There have been a slew of reports in the press claiming the militias have intensified their training in preparations for war.

  6. treaty- A formal agreement between two countries. (p. 305) • To end the dispute between the two neighboring lands, their leaders created and signed a treaty in order to bring peace once again.
