  28. The End!(Part 1)Any Questions???

  29. The School of Engineering, Design & Technology

  30. The School of Engineering, Design & Technology Offers degree courses in the following areas...

  31. The School of Engineering, Design & Technology • Design • Medical & Healthcare Technology • Information & E-Commerce Technologies • Mechanical & Automotive Engineering

  32. The School of Engineering, Design & Technology • Civil Engineering • Electronics & Telecommunications • Technology Management We also offer a Foundation Year leading to courses in all the above areas

  33. Medical Engineering Spinal inplant machined by omc precision

  34. Medical Engineers Design equipment eg., for a heart transplant • Heart Scanner

  35. What do our graduates say? • “This course really appealed to me, it’s quite different - very interesting with lots of variety. • I spent my year’s industrial placement in Germany working for a medical engineering company in their research and development section - looking at prosthetics. I hope to do similar sort of work once I’ve graduated and after my experience in Germany I would definitely consider working abroad.” • Gemma John, Graduated 2002 (Medical Engineering)

  36. E-Commerce Technologies Aimed at the future…

  37. Mechanical Engineering Wind tower rotors Vermont, Canada

  38. Mechanical & Automotive Engineering Here’s one we made earlier… Quantum H4 Convertible Sports car built by our Mechanical & Automotive Engineering Students (finished summer 2002)

  39. What do our graduates say? • “I mainly chose to study at Bradford because of its excellent links with industry. As part of my course, I spent a year’s placement working for Ford at Dagenham. It was a great experience and the wages I received have really helped as well. The practical side is a big help for future employment and the experience of a year’s placement will be a big advantage when I start applying for jobs.” • Sharaz Sultan - Graduated 2002 BEng (Hons) (Mechanical & Automotive Engineering)

  40. Civil Engineering

  41. What do our graduates say? • “One of the things Bradford has over other Universities is that it has a very practical basis. It was not all theoretical. It helps to have the experience rather than just sitting down and learning it parrot fashion. Bradford has a very good reputation for this and so the students are viewed favourably.” • Daniel Sawyer, Doyle Partnership, graduated 1996 (Civil Engineering)

  42. "This is a very exciting time for young engineers…” Kate Hall (nee Thomson): Civil & Structural Engineering graduate University of Bradford 1995 Position: Senior Engineer, Ove Arup & Partners, London Office. What do our graduates have to say…? Kate is currently leading team of 300 designing Olympic Park Site for the 2012 Olympics

  43. Kate Hall - Civil Engineering Graduate says... “There is a skills shortage, the world is your oyster with the choice of jobs and projects to work on. I recently had the opportunity to work in Hong Kong for four years. I have been involved in some major construction projects e.g. the design and construction of Hong Kong Station part of the new Hong Kong airport project.”

  44. Civil Engineers design bridges and roads Fremont Bridge Portland, Oregon

  45. Civil Engineers also work in hydraulics Picture courtesy of United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation - Lower Colorado Region

  46. Electronics & Telecommunications

  47. What do our graduates say? • “The University has a broad range of modules which means I could have applied to companies in the telecommunications industry. In addition, the placements are well related to the course. The lecturers are very experienced in their subject I was impressed with the way they stimulated the students in the lectures, which is often the most important thing when taking a degree.” • Imran Aszal, Philips Stockport, graduated 2000 (Electronics & Telecommunications)

  48. Technology Management

  49. What do our students say? • “Because of the breadth of the subjects covered, it meant that I had a choice of career path to take. For example, I have gone into a purely business environment looking at business strategy and business development, whilst people who have graduated with me have gone into marketing, engineering and production management.” • Justin Banbury, graduated 1998 now working in Aerospace Industry, (Technology Management)

  50. Engineers & Technologists Learn to • Think in 3-D • Design and make products using the latest technology • Appreciate style • Motivate others and work in teams • Understand value for money • Speak and write clearly
