  1. Philadelphia: Top Line Summary • Deployment in Center City – 500 sites between the Delaware & Schuylkill Rivers • Convert (4) high volume, high traffic, trash collection routes from traditional trash cans to BigBelly Solar Compactors to increase operational efficiency and save $. • City’s stated goals by July 1st 2009: • 3 shifts to 1 shift • 33 people to 9 people • 17 collections per week to 5-7 collections per week • BigBelly Solar providing a turnkey solution including compactors, wireless capability, installation training, onsite service, extended warranty, an overall project management. • $12.9M in cash savings over a 10-year time period (using unburdened labor costs). • Wireless capability on the solar compactor introduces a “smart can” for long term collection of route data for greater efficiencies, verification, and further cost reductions.

  6. Post-Install Comments “The solar compactors have been an instant hit and a win-win for everybody. The Mayor is thrilled and we have seen a noticeable difference in so many areas including litter reduction, and increased recycling in the use of the bins. The on-time delivery schedule and implementation of the BigBelly units worked well. They are well received by the community and we have had very few problems with vandalism and graffiti.” “The project is working according to plan in terms of reducing collections while actually increasing capacity and adding recycling downtown for the first time.” “The City plans to purchase 250 more for the neighborhood commercial corridors using a beautification grant.” Mayor Michael A. Nutter Carlton Williams Deputy Commissioner Streets and Sanitation City of Philadelphia 6
