  1. Pastor Mike BrubakerStudies in Ephesians“Pray!”Ephesians 6:18-19 Let’s pray using these 7 guidelines to help us be more effective as we pray.

  2. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel • Ephesians 6:18-19

  3. Introduction: • Prayer is the significant conclusion to the full armor of God. • Prayer includes spiritual warfare, therefore it is hard & joyful. • Prayer includes wimps & warriors, therefore each of us is included. • Prayer includes conversational, written & reading prayers (all styles). • Prayer is a learning & a growing process, therefore it takes a lifetime.

  4. Pray with all prayer (supplication, confession, intercession, thanksgiving, praise) • Pray at all times (generously, regularly, walking, in lines, driving, jogging, closet) • Pray in the Spirit (power of H.S., guidance of H.S., will of H.S., depend on H.S.) • Pray alertly (with eyes open; being on the alert; watch & pray) • Pray persistently (with all perseverance) • Pray specifically (with all petition) • Pray for all believers (for all the saints; and on my behalf—Paul)

  5. Now What? How do I get started or continue? (Helpful guidelines from Max Lucado’s book, “Before Amen—The Power of a Simple Prayer”) • Pray 4 themes each day. • Pray 1 minute for each of the 4 themes. • Pray 21 days straight for 1 minute for each of the 4 themes.

  6. Here are the 4 themes: • Father, You are good. (Praise Him for who He is.) • I need Your help. (Confess my sin to God. Ask Him for my needs.) • They need Your help. (Pray for others’ needs.) • Thank you, God. (Thank Him for what He has done.)

  7. INCREASE THE MINUTES AS THE HOLY SPIRIT LEADS YOU—HE MIGHT SAY ABIDE! • DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHERS—IT’S NOT A COMPETITION! • DO NOT MAKE THIS A SET OF RULES TO PLEASE GOD—THAT’S EMPTY LEGALISM! • IF YOU MISS A DAY, DO NOT SHAME YOURSELF—(ROMANS 8:1)! • REMEMBER THAT THIS IS ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS—NOT NUMBERS!
