  2. Geography • The countries that are surrounding France are Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain The physical features of France include Rivers: Loire, Seine and Garonne. Also the Major mountains: Alps, Massif Central, Pyrenees and the highest mountain;Mont Blanc. The other major features of France is the Island of Corsica and Ardennes Forest. Man Made Features: Pont du Gard: -A bridge in France that 3 tiers of arches. -6.4 m wide -48.8 m high La Tene Treasures: - Archaeologists found graves of 30 gaulish warriors from more then 2000 years. -Thought to have belonged to 4th-3rd centuries B.C.- -The women were buried wearing jewlery

It was built as a memorial for those who died during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. Built in 1806 • Eiffel Tower- Built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel and 300 meters of iron, this historic building honored the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Cite` de Carcassonne- Carcassonne is a fortified French town Chateau de Chambord- Construction started in 1519 by King Françios . There are 440 rooms in total.

Political Science/Sociology • Have a president of the country. • France is democratic – people have the right to vote. • Have two distinct parties- left and right • France had fought hard to increase their rights and freedoms. • Police Force: • -There is municipal police • - Only the designated officers are able to deal with criminal investigations • Education: • - The is 3 levels of school: Primary, Secondary and Higher education. • The modern era of the way the French education had begun at the end of the nineteenth century. There was a lawyer that had been holding the office of Minister of Public Instruction in the 1880’s takes credit for the modern school system by saying that children ages 6-12, boys and girls are allowed to start attending school. • Social Welfare: • Modern social insurance was offered to employees protection against certain risks such as: sickness, disability, maternaty, accidents , old age and death.

A couple of the biggest trade partners with in Europe are Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK • France has a few natural resources such as coal, iron ores and uranium Economics ~Liberalism-France is opposed to government intervention ~For example people don’t like the regulating 35 hour work week. ~The government does not set the minimum wage, the boss does.
