  1. Peebles Elementary School PTA Volunteer Opportunities • Give a little…give a lot! Every bit helps! • There is no wrong way to volunteer! • Join a committee or maybe chair one. • Volunteer on your own or with friends/family. • Spend an hour, a week, or all year. • We have opportunities to fit every schedule and skilllevel. Some positions can even be done from home! Please take a moment to read through the descriptions that follow and find that special fit(s!) for you. And remember, the more the merrier! We can always use more help. You are not limited in the number of committees for which you can volunteer. Please fill out the last page and return to school to indicate your choices no later than March 31, 2011. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the current Executive Board. President-Theresa Hollywood at 412-367-9157 Vice President-Kim Pillage at 412-318-4161 The Executive Board Per the by-laws, these positions require at least one year Committee Chair experience. They are a one year commitment. President/Co-Presidents: Presides over all PTA meetings, coordinates and oversees activities of, and is the ex-officio member of all committees. Vice President: Assists the President in execution of duties and performs duties of the President in the President’s absence. Secretary: Records the minutes of PTA meetings and conducts correspondence of the PTA including the reading and writing of thank you notes. Treasurer: Receives, records and disburses all PTA funds, keeping records of all transactions by fund category and presents monthly statements at each PTA meeting. Organizes files for the yearly tax return.

  2. REPRESENT PEEBLES! All of these positions require a year long commitment and the ability to attend scheduled meetings. EAC Representative Represent Peebles and attend meetings of the Elementary Advisory Committee with Elementary Superintendent and report issues at the following PTA meeting-this can be done via email to the PTA President. The EAC meetings which are held during the day. This is a district required position, thus, it is mandatory that the PTA has at least one representative. FFE Representative Represent Peebles and attend meetings of the Foundation for Excellence then report issues at the following PTA meeting—this can be done via email to the PTA President. The FFE meetings which are held during the day. School Board Representative Represent Peebles and attend NA School Board evening sessions and report issues to the PTA when necessary. Monthly meetings are held in the evening. SPLC Representative – Superintendent Parent Liaison Committee Represent Peebles and attend monthly meetings at the Central Office with the NA Superintendent then report issues at the following PTA meeting. Monthly meetings are held during the day. It is mandatory through the district that each elementary school has a representative and a replacement. Unified Booster Representative Represent Peebles and attend meetings. Report issues to the PTA when necessary.

  3. SHORT TERM COMMITMENTS – ONE MONTH OR LESS! Art Show Work with Mrs. Cech and organize parent volunteers for the preparation of the Art Show. This is a 1 month commitment (typically March). Movie Night Work with the principal to choose movie, send out fliers, organize food and parent volunteers for the night. Most work can be done from home, but you will need to be present the night of the event to supervise. This is a PTA fundraiser. Spring Candy Sale Coordinate w/a selected company to distribute a catalog of merchandise via Thursday Envelopes. This is a short term commitment once during the school year (typically March/April). This is a fundraising opportunity for the PTA. Family Fall Social Coordinate this welcoming event via a flyer in the Thursday Envelopes the first week of school. You will be responsible for organizing food, festivities and parent volunteers based on theme that will be chosen at the end of the previous year. This is a 1 evening commitment. Field Day Assist the PE teacher and principal to organize volunteers for the end of the year event. Purchase and provide lunch for all parent volunteers and popsicles for all the students (100% reimbursement is possible by retaining all receipts.) This is short term commitment at various stages during the springtime. Fundraising Coordinate w/a selected company to distribute material to all students to sell and raise funds to satisfy the PTA budget. This is the PTA’s largest fundraising opportunity with a goal of raising 1/3 of the yearly budget of approx. $20,000. One time commitment at the beginning of the school year. Greenhouse/Courtyard With approval by principal, coordinate any help needed to beautify the courtyard area and decorate the front of the school several times a year. Funds for materials provided through the PTA. Can be done on your own time and schedule! Holiday Store Organize the holiday store by selecting and securing merchandise, coordinating a simple food booth and scheduling parent volunteers. This is a fundraiser for the PTA. A commitment of one week, typically in November, and be able to attend the evening of the Holiday Store/Vendor Fair. Hospitality Organize and present a Spring Luncheon to the Peebles Staff. This position would require creating, copying, and distributing flyers asking Peebles parents to cook and bake. You also need to collect and arrange the food on the day of the luncheon. You are required to be present the day of the luncheon. Jump Rope for the Heart Assist the PE teacher to collect and record the money that is raised by the students. A one day commitment in the beginning of February is required.

WORK FROM HOME! **Great for families with small children!** **Awesome for working parents who want to be involved!** Membership Distribute PTA membership letter to parents via Thursday envelopes, collect membership dues that will be given to the PTA Treasurer, and prepare membership cards and a roster of current PTA members. You will work with Peebles Directory Chair for a distribution of directory. This is a 1 month commitment (September). Room Parent Coordinator Copy and distribute volunteer letter via Thursday envelopes. From this information you will assign Home Room Parent per classroom, Thursday Envelope Coordinator per classroom, Party Coordinator and Party Volunteers per classroom for the Halloween, Winter and Valentine’s Day parties. Once all positions have been assigned, you will distribute letters informing the parents of their responsibilities. This is a 1 month commitment (September) and sending reminder emails/flyers at various times of the year. After School Programs Arrange for the teaching of after school activities, schedule classes and coordinate sign-up. This is a short term commitment 2 times during the school year. The fall classes run late Sept/early Oct and the winter classes run late Jan/early Feb. This is a fundraising opportunity for the PTA. Assemblies Research assemblies and work with the principal to choose and book all PTA funded assemblies and programs. This is a year long commitment. Directory Compile information for the Peebles Directory and arrange for printing through NA Graphics and see to the distribution of the directory by working with the Membership Chair. This is a 1 month commitment (September). Box Tops/Giant Eagle Organize the collection, counting and redemption of General Mills Box Tops. Solicit registrations for Giant Eagle Apples for Students program. This is a year long commitment.This is a fundraising opportunity for the PTA.

Extended Positions • 4th Grade Events: Works with the grade level teachers to recruit and organize volunteers for various events throughout the year (i.e. Field Day). • 5th Grade Events: Works with the grade level teachers and principal to plan 5th grade graduation. Organizes 5th grade parent volunteers and oversees all committees for graduation. Three month commitment in March, April and May and attend the graduation ceremony in June. • International Festival – Food Chair: Organize and coordinate food and volunteers for this annual event typically in April. It involves making flyers to advertise the event via Thursday envelopes, solicit donations of food from public restaurants and Peebles families. A commitment of several months typically beginning in February is required. This is a fundraiser for the PTA. • International Festival – Basket Chair: Organize and create baskets for the annual International Festival event by solicitation of retail businesses, restaurants and Peebles families. A commitment of several months typically beginning in February is required. This is a fundraiser for the PTA. • Market Day: Work with the Market Day company representative to distribute flyer in Thursday envelopes, collect and place orders and organizes volunteers for monthly distribution. This is a year long commitment. This is a fundraiser for the PTA. • Special Events: Assist any staff member with the coordination of a special event i.e. the Giving Tree in December where the community is asked to donate hats, gloves and scarves for the less fortunate. Donation is transported to NHCO. • Traveling Art Gallery (TAG): Organize parent volunteers to present NA provided materials of famous artists and their work in the classrooms. TAG is done either in the fall or spring and is a few days spread over a couple months commitment. • Yearbook: Work with a selected company and be responsible for the overall organizing, photographing, editing, collecting orders for and distributing of the yearbook. Can be co-chaired and should seek parent volunteers for a committee. It is a year long commitment. • Party Snack Coordinator: Work with Principal to coordinate the all school snack for the 3 parties, Halloween, Holiday and Spring. You will also coordinate volunteers to serve on the day of the party. Must be present day of party. • Thursday Envelope Coordinator: Organize volunteers to stuff the Thursday envelopes on a weekly basis. Send out reminder emails to volunteers. This is a year long commitment, with most work done in September.
