  2. What’s Next? • Review your transcript-it was mailed home to you last week! Do I have enough credits to graduate? Do I have the right classes this year for a four year college? Do I want my class rank shared with the colleges I am applying to this fall?

  3. Review SAT ScoresRegister for SAT • Go to www.collegeboard.com • Register for the November 6, 2010 test-administered at RBRHS-deadline is 10/08/09 • CEEB Code: 311300 • List your top four college codes on form-included in cost-MANDATORY for Admission to most schools

  4. Register for ACT • Go to www.act.org • Register for the October 23, 2010 administration-late registration ends Oct. 1st OR the December 11, 2010 administration—registration ends Nov. 5 • Testing Sites: Keansburg HS; Keyport HS; Middletown HS North & South; Long Branch and Howell have December

  5. SAT II-do I need them? • Subject specific tests-www.collegeboard.com • Register the same way as the SAT’s • Check with the colleges/universities to which you are applying to find out if you need to take them and which ones you will need (you may take up to three subject tests in one administration)

  6. NCAA-Are you a student-athlete? • Initial Eligibility filed end of junior year • No paper-all done online at www.eligibilitycenter.org • SAT score report code-9999 to report your test scores to the NCAA • Division I or II sports only! See your coach for details

  7. College Search • Go to www.rbrhs.org • Click on the Guidance page • Click on Naviance and log in • Set up college visits at RBR or at the campus • Arrange for interviews if possible

  8. College Applications • Go to www.commonapp.org to obtain your common application-saves time • Go to www.admissions.rutgers.edu if applying to Rutgers • Go to the college’s website to access the online application or call the admissions office to get paper applications-Naviance can help

  9. Other things to do: • Complete the Student Self-Assessment online on Naviance. • Print a copy for your counselor who will be writing a letter of recommendation. • Update your Resume to reflect senior year. • Request letters of recommendation from individuals who know you.

  10. College Essays • Write your essay-get feedback from teachers, parents, and/or counselor • Don’t wait for the last minute to get help! • Most completed an essay in junior English class-find it and have it handy.

  11. RBR College Application Procedures You must turn in the following paperwork to have your application processed: • List of all college names and addresses, deadlines and type of admissions process (rolling, early, etc.). Make sure these colleges are also identified in Naviance • A completed application or the RBR Online Application form for each college • Application fee (if applicable)

  12. RBR College Application Procedures (continued) • Copy of your resume for each school • 1 printout of your student self-assessment from Naviance • 4 stamps for each college/university application • 2 stamps for Brookdale C.C.

  13. Recommendations • Ask your teachers early • Provide a stamped, addressed envelope for each school • Provide a Teacher Recommendation form if required • Insert a stamped, self-addressed postcard into each envelope so you will know when the recommendation has been received

Deadlines for Applications • All applications are due to the guidance office by November 12, 2010 in order to assure that they are mailed by the Thanksgiving Recess; December 3, 2010 by the Winter Recess. • When you are ready to submit applications, it is mandatory that you make an appointment with your counselor. • You must give the guidance office two weeks to process your application.

  17. Early Decision/Early Action • Do you know what this means? • You must still give the office two weeks to process your application for early action or early decision-see your counselor about this option!

  18. Scholarships/Financial Aid • Check Naviance, www.fastweb.com, scholarships.com, finaid.org for scholarships and other funding opportunities • Attend the Financial Aid meeting with your parents on October 21stat 7:00 pm

  19. Second Semester-what do I do now? • Complete all financial aid forms for schools applied to in the fall. • FAFSA-mandatory!!! • Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to apply after January 1, 2011-must have tax info for 2010 handy to complete form. • Go online prior to this date to obtain pin number. • CSS Form-some universities require this financial form. Go to www.cssprofile.org

  20. ANY QUESTIONS??? • MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE YOUR COUNSELOR! • DON’T WAIT FOR THE LAST MINUTE TO APPLY TO THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY OF YOUR DREAMS!!
