  1. CDP Visioning Statusand Planning GA Presentation September 25, 2010

  2. State of our Churches (’05-’10) • Lost Five Churches (Latino Churches {Baltimore, Gambrills, Arlington}, Friendsville, Liberty Rd.) • Gained Four Churches (Latino Churches {Silver Spring, Hyattsville, Rockville} & Light of the World) • Declined 5% overall • (+32% with Fairfax & Celebration) • 70% of Churches are Stagnant or in Decline • 30% are Growing

  3. 5 Year Past Comparison

  4. 9 Year Past Comparison

  5. Size of CDP Churches85% Less than 100

  6. Other CDP Trends • Low participation in joint ministry • (reported by Harting in 2007) • More than 1/3 of congregations don’t contribute • Only ¼ give at a level that would sustain the budget (2007 numbers) • Distance between “Anderson” Churches and “National Association” Churches

  7. The Emerging Order • One theory of organizational structure says that you should trust the “emerging order.” • Our emerging order in the CDP has been emerging for years…it is telling us that we need to find a new way of doing business that works for us!

  8. Conclusions • We celebrate the growth at Fairfax and Celebration Churches • We recognize that most of our churches are bleeding • Transitions can be a gift to help re-evaluate and move in new directions • We believe our best hope for revitalized churches is an initiative at our district level • Rate of Decline has increased within last 5 years
