  3. Strategic Visioning • Collectively- creates a proactive plan for the future • Long term plan • Defines the organization • Details principles and beliefs • Gives organization power to create and design personal values

  4. Strategic Planning • Process that guides day-day planning of organization • The steps that are critical to reach the goal • Provides a framework and structure by which to meet the needs of the organization

  6. Steps to Creating a Vision Step 1 Frame the question Step 2 Individual Thought Step 3 and 4 One-on-One Sharing

  7. Step 5 Develop Themes Step 6 Breakout groups write vision statement Step 7 Select the vision

  8. Purpose • Begin each meeting with vision statement • Focuses participants on the goal • Provides direction for all decisions • Jumping off point- can now develop strategic plan

  9. Strategic Plan- -Why? • Good management tool • Provides measurable objectives to complete along the way • Leads you to the vision- allows focus of energy

  10. Brainstorming • Focus on generating a large amount of ideas • Creative ideas (far-fetched) • No criticism! Allow ideas to flow • Evaluate all ideas at the end of the process

  11. Now You Try • The Question: In 5 years what should this organization have accomplished? • On a piece of paper write down as many answers to this question as you can think of

  12. Congratulations! • You just completed the 1st and 2nd steps of creating a vision statement • Now share your ideas with a partner • Once you have both shared find a new partner and share with them

  13. Now as a Group….. • Together we will discuss the ideas you generated • Feel free to provide feedback on specific ideas • If something we write sparks an idea in your mind- speak up!

  14. Next… In small groups of 3-4 with those around you: • Use the key words on the board • Write down a 1-2 sentence vision statement • This should begin with “To be the best…………….

  15. Finally • As a group write down your vision statement • Nominate 1 person to read your vision • Pay attention because then I will ask you to vote for the vision statement you think best describes the organization

  16. Objectives • Will determine how high you jump by setting the standards • Only state one purpose and one result per each objective • Provides a forecast for future resluts

  17. The Rules • Action Oriented • Realistic • Measurable • Clear, Precise, Definite • Step to achieve vision

  18. Measure A Change In • Behavior • Action • Knowledge • Skills • Products • Adoption of practice

  19. Put it into action On a big piece of paper draw a lily pond Imagine you are standing on one side and our Vision Statement and the Organization are on the other side. Draw and label the lily pads that will help you reach your goal.
