  1. SLAC Association for Student Seminars What makes a mountain impressive? Andrew Larkoski How do you measure the impressiveness of a mountain?  In this talk, I will define prominence which is a significantly better measure than height or elevation for both how difficult the climb will be and how rewarding the view from the top is.  The concept of prominence also has applications to data analysis and extrema finding, of which I will discuss a few examples.
