ALCASDE is a pioneering European project focused on developing and promoting alternatives to the surgical castration of pigs and the dehorning of cattle. As the EU enhances legislation to maintain high standards of animal health and welfare, the project aims to support research that encourages consumer acceptance of pig meat from entire males and cattle farming practices that avoid dehorning. Coordinated by IRTA in Spain, ALCASDE involves 20 organizations across Europe, working towards improved animal welfare in livestock production.
