Activity 1 • Muscles generally work in opposing pairs • In groups of two or three, go through the following movements and try so work out which muscles are the “prime movers” (agonists) • Elbow flexion • Knee extension • Trunk (spine) flexion • Wrist extension • Neck rotation • Hip extension • Shoulder abduction • Shoulder depression • Shoulder elevation Dan Jakes 2010

  6. Activity 2 • Still in your groups, try to determine what action the following muscles perform: • Glutes • Rectus abdominus • Deltoid • Biceps • Lats • Pecs (this is a tricky one! ;-) • SCM (both unilaterally and bilaterally) – again a tricky one • TFL • Calf Dan Jakes 2010
