Aim of this Evening To give some more detailed information to those on committees to help them in their role Have a more detailed look at how the club runs and where improvements can be made Discuss with other clubs how they run and share best practice. Learn a little more about LTA resources that are available Talk more about where SLTA can support programs at clubs.

  4. So how is Somerset Tennis Getting on? 36 Registered Places To Play (increase of 4) Members in clubs risen by 8%. Increase in children playing 6+ matches from 260 – 370. Decrease in Junior Tournament Cancellations Facilities developments at Frome, Wellington, Queen Camel (£100k) and Tintinhull (Sport England £20k) SLTA re-branded rules for modern practices. New committee members (Simon Woodhill / Kerry Quirk / Brian Clarke / Angus Davidson) Wimbledon Tickets Online – saving volunteers administration. SLTA Small Grants scheme – Support for viable club projects.

  5. Somerset Tennis - Context • 9 indoor courts in whole county (Taunton / Millfield) • 4 clubs with 5 or more courts (Taunton, Wells, Avenue, Millfield) • 10 clubs with four courts or more (the big clubs!) • Majority of registered clubs have 2 or 3 courts • Almost all clubs are floodlit….

Format of the Forum…. • Split into two/four groups depending on your role • Chair / Treasurer and Secretary / Competition Organiser • We will guide each group through an agenda of information. • We wish clubs to engage in discussion in each groups. • We find club sometimes get the best ideas from each other – so don’t be afraid to say what you are doing…

  8. Treasurer • Club Accounts • Sinking Funds • Court Maintenance Schedules • Income Streams • Ways to Save Money

  9. Secretary • Places to play self service • Keeping a club database • SW19 Tickets Systems • Working with the coach • Promoting Club events

  10. Competition Organiser • Different Competition Formats • Tennis Tournament Planner • Tournament Software – League Online • Inputting Results Online • Ratings / Rankings / Grading

What Is happening next in 2012/2013 • Clubs can request further visits from any staff to talk in more detail on any of these areas • SLTA Council will be contacting clubs to arrange an informal visit to see how they are getting on….. • Perhaps invite them to a club night….. • Jodie / Annie out and about at clubs for support. • James continuing to visit clubs – if you want help just ask….

  12. A few reminders…….. SW19 Tickets • This will be online again in 2013 so ballot can either be done manually or automatically • Make sure that you tell the winners that they have won so they get the updated e-mail form LTA • Don’t leave it to the last minute! Rules • Have you changed your rules yet? • John Barrington is our legal advice is SLTA council • The changes for clubs are simple. It involves adding in some simple clauses. • It is vitally important that clubs do this.

  13. SLTA Small Grant Scheme – The Stats • Up and running now for two years • £5,000 given out to clubs • Made up of Money from Somerset LTA sponsors • Royal Bank of Canada Capital Markets • There to support club projects – 13 clubs, 21 projects considered only 2 rejected

  14. SMALL GRANTS CASE STUDY • Scoreboards for Tournaments • Club Signs • Website Development • School development • Parents Play as Well • Adult Beginners • Club Tournaments • Minor Facilities • Coach Development • Apprenticeship Scheme • Cardio Tennis • Disability Tennis

  15. SLTA Small Grant Scheme – Measures • This isn't money for free! Clubs agree to measures after receiving 1st 2/3 and get remaining 1/3 after completing measures. • Must be match funded £1 for £1 by clubs • SLTA must report back to the sponsors and other clubs that game has grown as a result of investment. • Increasing British Tennis Members, Increasing Coaching Sessions • Increasing Adult Members, Junior Members and players on coaching program.

  16. Small Grant Scheme - Regularly Competing Juniors – (RCJ’s) Regularly Competing Junior – Junior Members that have played 6 MATCHES (NOT TOURNAMENTS) in a 12 month period.These results must be sent into the office and recorded on LTA database….complete with BTM numbers…..Can be completed using timed tennis within coaching sessions….…10 mins red, 15 mins orange, 20 mins green and yellow
