  1. The social impacts of the use of IT

  2. Local community Some of the staff who work prefer to work at home instead of the company because there’s no time wasting when they wake up in the morning because they can start work as soon as they wake up instead of going through traffic in the mornings and they can also work around their social life as well. some of the bad points to working at home are that you might get distracted by some other jobs that you would have to do in the home; they might get distracted with all the noise that’s happening in the home; they would have to pay for a suitable working area and they might also be taking days off but the manager could also keep track of all your calls. If people decide to work at home then they would have to buy or rent a place where they can keep all their office or work appliances so none of it is used or destroyed by young children; the manager also wouldn’t have to worry about office space because he might have a lot of free space in the office from all the workers working at home. All the stores with websites could lead their stores to being closed down due to an insufficient amount of customers because all their customers are shopping on their website which will lead the people to becoming lazy and antisocial so they will have less communication with community.

  3. Availability of jobs Some people might get different job roles because some companies are bringing in machines to do the jobs that people do for example a sandwich factory, they use about 30-50 staff members to produce the sandwiches whereas the machines produce twice as much and in better quality. There are more reasons to why some companies bring in machines to do the job that the staff do and some of the reasons are that the machines do the job quicker, in high quality, produce more products than humans and that the machines don’t need to take time off. Some people might not even have a job anymore after a company brings in machines to do the jobs of the workers then all of them might get fired or some of them might be kept if they know how to fix machines.

  4. Inequality in broadband access Some businesses in the country might not have access to the internet or the internet might be slow so they wont be able to run their business and then they would have to move to the city but the places available might be too expensive. Some people might not even have access to internet where ever they are like in the country side, you might not have broadband access so you won’t be able to do any work which might have an impact on the company which is in that area. People who do internet shopping mainly do it because you can Compare prices very easily; Less time spending on looking at the items than in the stores; easier to find things you want to buy from a store; you can find other items which are not in store but are on the website; check the reviews of the product; don’t have to travel; see a lot of products within a minute; some products are cheaper online; check the website whenever you want; buy and see things which are not available in your local area; get a lot of information of the website on the product.

  5. Potential threats Some of the threats in which the use of IT has introduced are: • Cyber bullying- If you use a wiki or any other social website then you might have random people who will write bad things about you on you profile or home page • Denial of service- bombarding a web server with messages or requests that the server can’t cope with it so it has to shut down • Viruses- viruses are a Malicious software which can enter your computer; some of the viruses can steal your personal information, delete data, send spam messages or even shut down your computer. To know if you have been infected by a virus you can scan your computer using antivirus. An antivirus program will try and stop the virus from getting into your computer. Another way to know if your computer has a virus is if it runs slower than the last time you used it. Viruses can duplicate themselves. The viruses get around by infecting other files in your computer. Another way they could get spread around is when you send an attachment with an e-mail to someone the virus is then released into their computer once they have opened it.
