  3. Auditions, Tryouts, & Readings • Prepared Audition • Textual Tryout • Cold Reading • Improvisational Audition

  4. Prepared Audition • May used rehearsed material • Includes memorized lines and actions • Monologues/Duets • Serious/funny • Not material from the play

  5. Textual Tryout • Material from the printed play • A scene or monologue selected by the director • You memorize the material before the audition • Same as prepared audition, but with material from the play

  6. Cold Reading • Use unfamiliar material • Read with imagination, feeling, and confidence • Director wants to see how you interpret the material

  7. Improvisational Audition • Improv a scene around assigned character and situation • How well do you adapt to the situation • How well do you establish a character

  8. Audition Tips/Techniques • Read the Information Sheet!!!! • Fill out the information form (the form you fill out when you show up to audition), or make your own • Don’t make excuses (Have a cold, got no sleep, printer is broken) • Make your first 15 seconds count • The 3 C’s (Comfortable, charismatic, confident) • Make a resume (a paper with your information and past experience)

  9. Audition Tips/Techniques Continued • Don’t start over. If you make a mistake, fight through it • Be prepared to do more than what is required • Look presentable: hair, clothes, etc. • Be prepared for a callback (a return audition where you read from the play) • Always audition!!!!!!
