  1. Everything you needed to know… about the CRCT (April 17-23) April 17-23 Reading LA Math Science Soc.Studies Before the TEST *Get a good night’s sleep *RELAX * Talk about it if you’re nervous. • NEEDED supplies: • #2 pencils • FOCUS • BEST EFFORT • SNACK for after

  2. DURING THE TEST… USE the following strategies during the test: • Relax by taking slow, deep breaths. • Read the directions carefully. Make sure you understand • what you need to do. If you are not sure, ask the teacher. • Read each question carefully. • When you use scratch paper, make sure that you copy • the problem correctly from the test onto your paper. • You can underline and make marks on your test to help • you while you work, but the only answers that will be scored • are those in the correct locations on your answer sheet.

  3. DURING THE TEST… • Fill in the corresponding circle fully when you choose • your answer. Erase any marks outside of the circle. • Use your time wisely. Leave a question blank if you • are unsure of the answer, then return to it at the end. • Don’t spend too much time on one question. • Be sure to answer all of the questions. • Review your answers when you have finished the test. • Try to stay calm during the test. This is a chance for you • to show what you know. Do the best you can!

  4. READING • UNRAAVEL your passages (You CAN and SHOULD write on the test.) • Read your questions so that you know what they’re asking. • Think about your answer BEFORE reading your answer choices. • CAN YOU PROVE YOUR ANSWER? • Is Mrs. Bryant YELLING AT YOU?? (Notice all CAPS and BOLD words!!)

  5. READING • Do you Know??? • All About Story Elements? • How to Compare/ Contrast two passages? • How to locate your answers by using UNRAAVEL? • How prefixes and suffixes change the definition of vocabulary?

  6. ENGLISH/ LANGUAGE ARTS • Read your questions carefully. (You CAN and SHOULD write on the test.) • Explain the vocabulary to yourself “in your head.” • Does it sound like the Queen of England would say it? • CAN YOU PROVE YOUR ANSWER? • Is Mrs. Bryant YELLING AT YOU?? (Notice all CAPS and BOLD words!!) • Supporting Details are tiny facts about the Main Idea!!

  7. ENGLISH/ LANGUAGE ARTS • DO YOU KNOW… • The Parts of Speech and their definitions? • All about Sentences and how to combine them? • How to decide which sentence does NOT belong or how to make writing BETTER?

  8. MATH CRCT Rules & Advice… Work EVERYTHING out! AND DRAW pictures to show meaning. Write on your TEST!!! Circle, Mark, and X out any important info. What if my answer doesn’t match my choices? What should I watch for when answering? • Is your answer REASONABLE? • Pay attention to the DETAILS of the question. • Does your answer MAKE SENSE? • Did you REDUCE, REDUCE, REDUCE? • Did you SIMPLIFY your decimals? • REREAD the question and REWORK the problem.

  9. IMPORTANT VOCABULARY • Do you KNOW… • Product • Quotient • Sum • Difference Are there OTHERS you SHOULD KNOW?

  10. TYPES OF QUESTIONS… • ERROR ANALYSIS (What did the person do incorrectly when solving the problem?) • MULTI-STEP PROBLEMS (More than one step to solve the problem. READ CAREFULLY!) • NEXT STEP PROBLEMS (What comes NEXT?) • IDENTIFY THE CORRECT IMAGE (Look closely!) • FRACTIONS with grids (mult. and div.) • EXPANDED NOTATION (Powers of 10) • ALGORITHM, ARRAY, CHUNKING • and MORE…

  11. SCIENCE / SOCIAL STUDIES • Read ALL questions carefully and get rid of answers that don’t make sense. • If you don’t know the information, which answer choice would be your best option. • If you’re still not sure, SKIP it and GO BACK.

  12. GENERAL TESTING ADVICE… • READ YOUR INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!! • Make sure you are answering the correct number. (Check your booklet and your answer sheet.) • If you SKIP a question, put a ? in the booklet so that you remember to go back. • Once finished, GO BACK and rework each question. You may find a mistake or numbering errors.
