The intro Definitions • Stewardship – A means to protect a Kingdom while those rightfully in charge were away or Govern on behalf of an underage King - Peter Block • Entrust with the responsibility of caring for, managing, using and administering that which belongs to someone else Ownership – • Psalm 24:1&2 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters • Genesis 1:26 - Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,and over all the creatures that move along the ground • God owns everything/ he created it and sustains it • Treasures | Time (Life) | Talents | Power | Relationships | • Man is a caretaker

  5. The intro Contemporary Views • Man owns and controls everything • Acts 12: 21 - 23 Herod’s death, ‘because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.’ • Hoard and secure the future • Luke 12:13-21. The Parable of the Rich fool • Philanthropy - "love of mankind". Thus, philanthropy is giving money for a purpose or cause benefiting people who you don't personally know NOT quite same as Stewardship God’s way.

Overall principles • Attitude • Don’t forget God is the source - Deut 8:10-11, 23:14 • Recognize the Source – leading to Gratitude • Maximise God’s gift • Eternal perspective • Authority of a Steward • Manage per the Owner’s Instruction to get His results • Stewardship communicates limitations – for our enjoyment as we honor God • Freedom to do what we ought to (not what we want) ! • Adversary of Stewardship - Satan

The principles of stewardship – talent(gifts, abilities) Mathew 25: 14-29 • Kingdom implications – Eternal effect • Talents given by God ‘without repentance’ – He doesn’t regret/ change His mind. • Talents given in different measure per one’s ability – such as personalities (natural abilities) • Talents will be accounted for (when the master returns) • Faithfulness in little leads to increase – responsibility and impact • Expectation of growth • Sharpening skill – Training – Prov 22:29, Regular use, Confront challenges • ‘Increasing’ the talent – multiply oneself • Sanctify the skill – 2 Timothy 2:20 - 21 • Offer it for Service

Your Desk – Cluttered Your Room/ Bedroom – dressing table/ wardrope becomes cluttered Your Self Esteem – Starts diminishing/ Insecurity/ Unsure Your Appointments – Lateness for meetings, deadlines and returning calls, Over promising and Under delivering Your Productivity – Tendency to invest oneself in unproductive tasks Your Attitude – Negative attitude towards my work/ studies/life

Gordon McDonald “No one ever reached any eminence, and no one having reached it ever maintained it, without discipline.” ~ William Barclay John 7:6-10 Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do….. You go to the festival. I am notgoing up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee. However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.

John 5:18 – 19 - Jesus gave them this answer: "Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. Also John 8: 28 John 2:4 - Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come..’’ How Jesus Controlled His Time: • He understood His mission • He understood His limits • He set aside time for training the twelve – The important that doesn’t scream

The principles of stewardship – time(time management) Redeeming Time – Making most of the opportunity – Ephesians 5:15 - 17 Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. “Not everything that cries the loudest is the most urgent thing.” • MacDonald’s Laws of Unmanaged Time: • “Law #1: Unmanaged Time Flows Toward My Weaknesses” • “Law #2: Unmanaged Time Comes Under the Influence of Dominant People in My World” • “Law #3: Unmanaged Time Surrenders to the Demands of All Emergencies” • “Law #4: Unmanaged Time Gets Invested in Things That Gain Public Acclamation” Redeeming Time Tips • “I Must Know My Rhythms of Maximum Effectiveness” • “I Must Have Thoughtful Criteria for Choosing How to Use My Time” • “I Manage Time and Command It Best When I Budget It Far in Advance” Gordon McDonald

The principles of stewardship - treasures 1 Timothy 6: 6-10, 17 • Godliness and contentment is great gain • Authentic walk with God – Ps 63 • Inner satisfaction regardless of the external • There are many things that money cant buy – joy, peace, • Riches are temporal • Guard against the love of money • The trap and temptation is the pursuit for wealth • Foolish and harmful desires leading to ruin and destruction • Wander from the faith – sorrows !! • The Rich • Not be conceited/arrogant/proud • Be Generous • Convert present wealth to Eternal Riches – Mathew 6:19, Luke 12:18

  13. The practicalities/ implications • Pray • Purpose to Honor God First • God’s Direction • Plan - Money - Budget to control as desired Tips on Money Budget 1. Be Realistic About Your Budget 2. Differentiate Between “Needs” And “Wants” In Your Budget3. Budget for slack – High Expenses and Lower Income4. Include A Miscellaneous Category In Your Budget5. Include Savings In Your Budget6. Align Your Budget With Your Goals And Values7. Keep All Of Your Bills and Receipts Organized8. Review And Recalculate Your Budget9. Pay Cash For Small Expenses10. Forgive Yourself For Small Transgressions
