  6. Why the Personal Project? (2:36 – 2:38) • The Personal Project is completed by all IB scholars in the world – approximately 400,000 scholars work on the Personal Project each year • It is a required component of the IB Middle Years Program • Scholars that choose not to complete the Personal Project will be exited from Harding’s IB Middle Years Program • The Personal Project is a “continuation requirement” to the Junior year • We believe it appropriately pushes our scholars and prepares them for the rigors of the Diploma Program in the Junior year

  7. Agenda (2:38) Opening and Do Now Why the Personal Project? Pre-Work Trends PP Supervisor Case Studies Closing, Exit Ticket, and Next Steps

  8. Pre-Work SHOUTOUT! (2:39) • SHOUTOUT to the following teachers and staff members for completing the pre-work: • Erika Summers – the first to submit! • Sue Menand • Patrice Harris • Jamie Schendt • Effuah Sam • Connie Pendergast • Gloria Brinkman • Danielle Leach • Mary Heston • Kyle Healey • Amy Prior – received the pre-work today and still submitted it!

  9. Pre-Work Trends (2:40) • The vast majority of your responses to the “Wonders?”, “Wows!”, and “Whoa&^#$!” fell into three main buckets: • Time Commitment and Scheduling • Writing the Personal Project Paper • New Process and Systems for 2012 – 2013 • As we review each bucket, feel free to jot down notes in the column “Responses and/or steps we’ve taken to mitigate the “Wonders?”, “Wows!”, and “Whoa&^#$!”

  10. Pre-Work Trends – Time Commitment and Scheduling (2:40 – 2:41)

  11. Pre-Work Trends – Writing the Personal Project Paper (2:41 – 2:42)

  12. Pre-Work Trends – New Process and System for 2012 – 2013 (2:42 – 2:43)

  13. Agenda (2:44) Opening and Do Now Why the Personal Project? Pre-Work Trends PP Supervisor Case Studies Closing, Exit Ticket, and Next Steps

  14. Personal Project Supervisor Case Studies (2:44 – 2:46) • To make sure that we’re normed as a team on appropriate responses to scholars, we’re going to look at three scenarios • Case Study Protocol: • 1 minute to review scenario and create a response with your partner • 2 minutes to share out responses and norm on Supervisor response and next steps • Throughout your discussions, remember to consider specific dialogue, documentation, and direction for each meeting

  15. Personal Project Supervisor Case Studies: Scenario No. 1, Meet Your Mentor (2:46 – 2:50) • Your mentee shows up for your first meeting without a written reflection or a process journal notebook. Remember our Case Study Protocol: • 1 minute to review scenario and create a response with your partner • 2 minutes to share out responses and norm on Supervisor response and next steps • Throughout your discussions, remember to consider specific dialogue, documentation, and direction for each meeting

  16. Personal Project Supervisor Case Studies: Scenario No. 2, Paper Draft #2 Review (2:50-2:54) • Your mentee shows up with a draft that is not cited at all, and a missing Works Cited page.  Suspecting plagiarism, you quickly type in part of the draft and find that the student has copied and pasted a website. Remember our Case Study Protocol: • 1 minute to review scenario and create a response with your partner • 2 minutes to share out responses and norm on Supervisor response and next steps • Throughout your discussions, remember to consider specific dialogue, documentation, and direction for each meeting

  17. Personal Project Supervisor Case Studies: Scenario No. 3, Presentation Practice (2:54-2:57) • Your mentee shows up and presents a dynamic presentation, citing credible research with excellent note cards. There is no evidence of a product, and when asked about it, the scholar's response is that it's "not finished yet." Remember our Case Study Protocol: • 1 minute to review scenario and create a response with your partner • 2 minutes to share out responses and norm on Supervisor response and next steps • Throughout your discussions, remember to consider specific dialogue, documentation, and direction for each meeting
