The 3 stooges • In film, the Stooges ran from 1930-1969 • Longest and most famous combination of Stooges = Larry, Curly, & Moe (this combo ran for 14 years) • Moe & Larry lasted the whole time, 3rd person rotated due to deaths/injuries • Appeared in 220+ films (many of these were short films) • Known for their extreme slapstick humor • Exaggerated actions & physical activity (falling down, etc.) • Recent resurgence (2012 movie)

  4. Lucy & ricky (I love Lucy) • From the TV Sitcom “I Love Lucy” (Ran from 1951-1957) • Lucy & Desi were actually married in real life • Well-loved American Sitcom – still has millions of viewers

  9. Straight-man/clown pairing • The “clown” of the pair does very comedic silly things • The “straight-man” reacts to those things • Examples: Lucy & Ricky (I Love Lucy), Abbott & Costello

  10. Dark/black comedy • Brings humor to/makes fun of an otherwise serious situation • Usually satirical, sarcastic • Common topics include death, war, domestic violence, terminal illness, etc. • Examples: Shaun of the Dead (Zombie apocalypse), Clue (Murder)
