RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS EMERGING EVENT PLAN • Three-Phased Approach • MDH Staff – 2 Staff • Local Partners To Assist, If Needed • Local – Regulated Parties • Medical (Mayo) • Industrial (3M) • Educational (University of MN) • Neighboring States • Wisconsin • Iowa • Federal - NRC
IMPLEMENTATION • Notified All Regulated Facilities of Possible Shut-Down And That Laws Remain In Effect • All State Employees Laid-Off • Only Staff Needed To Support “Critical” Services Were Called Back To Work.
IDENTIFIED CRITICAL FUNCTIONS • MDH Only Staffed Critical Functions • All Staff Were Laid-Off • 200 of 1500 MDH Recalled • 40 of 300 EH Staff Recalled • MDH Utilized ICS To Manage Operations
LESSONS LEARNED • Important To Have Radiation Listed In Department’s COOP • ICS Worked Well To Manage Dept. • Important to Maintain Local, State and Federal Partnerships • Consider Developing a Phased Staffing Plan – Just In-Case
