Lose and Win Program Lose and Win was created to help employees learn how to achieve and maintain a healthy weight • Worksite group support for weight loss • 8-week behavioral modification program • Evidence-based and derived from the latest research • Incorporates key aspects of successful weight loss behaviors • Focus is on nutritional modifications, consistent physical activity, stress management and cognitive restructuring
2009 Pilot Results • Lose and Win was successfully launched in January 2009 • The program was well received by more than 750 people working within 29 different organizations • 96% of the participated rated the program as good or excellent • Average weight loss was 5 lbs per person • 73% of participants reported increasing physical activity • 71% of participants reported making healthier food choices • 65% of participants reported reducing portion sizes
Facilitator Responsibilities • Become familiar with all the Lose and Win materials • Determine days, times, and locations for onsite meetings and coordinate registration process • Facilitate completion of the pre- and post- program questionnaires • Facilitate onsite sessions • Plan and conduct fun activities for each session • Determine how you will promote attendance • Take attendance at each meeting • Act as a contact for questions from participants • Celebrate program completion

Lose & Win Materials The eight original Lose & Win sessions have been recorded as podcasts. Members can access at any time convenient for them if they miss an onsite session. Additional podcasts recordings coming in 2011. http://go.uhc.com/podcasts/uhc
Recruitment Process • Determine dates to run program • Determine meeting sites (day, time, room, location) • Find back-up instructor (suggested) • Promote program (posters, emails) • Register participants (sign-up sheet) • Plan introduction/kick-off event
Data Collection Process Current Process • Online survey process through Zoomerang • Facilitators access the links for the online surveys in the Lose & Win toolkit on UnitedHealthcare’s eServices Communication Resource Center • Facilitator will gather email addresses during introduction session and send the Pre-Survey link to the participants • Facilitator will send reminder to participants to complete pre-survey within one week of program starting • Facilitator will send the Post-Survey link to participants following session #8 • Facilitator will send reminder to participants to complete post-survey within one week of program ending
Implementation Process Lose & Win Sessions 1 through 8: • Review content before each session • Plan any activities • Send reminders to participants • Take attendance • Lead group and review session content • Encourage group discussion
Summary • Create an environment that is fun, engaging and supportive • Facilitate the behavioral change process by allowing the participant to discuss and resolve their own obstacles to weight loss • Encourage other participants to offer suggestions – we learn from others • Ask engaging and interesting questions • Let participants do most of the talking • Present and discuss the content provided in the guides • Assign a “researcher” when needed • Be willing to learn and have fun while supporting co-workers
