  1. EVITherM – Task 4.1 Task 4.1 – Best Practice Guides  What will a user of Evitherm look for ?  the best technique to measure the thermal diffusivity or thermal conductivity of his material  the best method to calibrate his own equipment  How can we meet his requirement ?  to give him criteria to choose the right method  to describe measurement or calibration methods  to provide lists of laboratories / experts and measurement providers EVITherM – Jacques HAMEURY / Bruno HAY – April 22 - 2003

  2. EVITherM – Task 4.1 Give the best method depending on the following criteria CRITERIA Physical properties of material Sample geometry Temperature range Thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity ranges Uncertainty of measurement MEASUREMENTS METHODS Transient techniques Stationary techniques Subsecond techniques El. Resistivity Other techniques Problems : difficulties to quantify the criteria and to give clearly only one method for each customer’s problem EVITherM – Jacques HAMEURY / Bruno HAY – April 22 - 2003

  3. EVITherM – Task 4.1 Provide descriptions of methods of measurement, calibration and verification If descriptions already exist  Give links to existing databases  Give references of standards If descriptions don’t exist • writing of documents by partners (depending on their expertise) Is this work included in the task 4.1. ? Problems : several variants for a same technique  which level of details must reach the documents writing the documents need a lot of time EVITherM – Jacques HAMEURY / Bruno HAY – April 22 - 2003

  4. EVITherM – Task 4.1 Provide lists of laboratories / contacts Requirement of the EVITherM user Need of information Need of measurements Database of measurement providers Database of laboratories and experts able to inform EVITherM – Jacques HAMEURY / Bruno HAY – April 22 - 2003

  5. EVITherM – Task 4.4 Task 4.4 – Reference Materials What will a user of Evitherm look for ?  Certified Reference materials for thermal conductivity or thermal diffusivity to calibrate or verify his equipment If there is no available certified reference materials in the temperature, thermal conductivity or thermal diffusivity ranges of his equipment :  lists of well-known materials which can be used as a reference (for instance Armco Iron for thermal diffusivity)  lists of relevant publications given information and values concerning these materials EVITherM – Jacques HAMEURY / Bruno HAY – April 22 - 2003

  6. EVITherM – Task 4.4 Task 4.4 – Reference Materials Certified referencematerials Lists of available certified reference materials and suppliers Not certified referencematerials Lists of existing materials and suppliers Needs for additional standards Lists of calibration providers (for example NMIs) Compilation of requirements for additional reference material Publications List of publications related to reference materials EVITherM – Jacques HAMEURY / Bruno HAY – April 22 - 2003
