Cherokee Nation • Refused to give up land in GA • 1832 – Federal troops marched Cherokee west TRAIL OF TEARS • Many suffered from exposure, disease and starvation, many died. including 4,000 of the 15,000 relocated Cherokee. • Indian Reservations are still common today.
War with the Spanish • Spanish wanted people to settle land in Texas • By 1830, Texas had more Americans than Spanish • Santa Anna – president of Mexico • Refused to sell to US and stopped immigration and trade
