  2. LIFE • Tom Stone was born on a train outside of Mexico City and spent his childhood living in parts of California and Hawaii. • He went to Harvard University and graduated with a degree in computer science. • Created much of his work within the last 4 years. “Faith & Grace” – 2/19/2006

  3. TIMELINE • Tom Stone made and is still making his famous black and white photos during the time that poverty has been the highest it has ever been in the United States. The majority of his pictures were taken from 2005 – the present. “From the Ground” – 10/2/2005

  5. SUBJECT AND FOCUS • Tom Stone takes photographs of homeless people in America. • He focuses on people who are basically outcasts of society and tries to get in touch with their inner selves that nobody else takes the time to see. “Dexter” – 8/18/2009

  6. INFLUENCES • Tom Stone was inspired by photographers such as Dorothea Lange, Richard Avedon, Diane Arbus and Sebastião Salgado.. • These photographers also photgraphed the homeless and shared perspective with Tom Stone’s work. “Salvation” – 3/27/2007

BEHIND THE PHOTGRAPHY • Tom Stone makes his photography to depict how homeless people in America feel. • He tries to emphasize that not everybody fits in all the time and send the message that just because homeless people don’t, they shouldn’t be treated any differently. “After All These Years” – 3/10/2006
