Where did it all begin? What happened when? 1919 First Training Meeting in Dayton, Ohio 1922 Dayton Foreman’s Club Founded 1924 Ohio Federation of Foremen Founded 1925 National Association of Foremen Founded 1956 Name changed to National Management Association 1970 New National Headquarters opened in Dayton, Ohio 2004 International Management Council merged with NMA 2005 Re-branded ourselves NMA… THE Leadership Development Association

Chapters select Directors who make all NMA Policy! How does NMA work? • Policy administered by NMA staff • 4 full time employees NMA Directors Elect National Officers and Area Chairs! Governed by its members
NMA National Directors National Director -Selected by his/her chapter -Serves a 1 or 3-year term Associate Director -Appointed for a one-year term by Area Chairman -No vote on Board of Directors Directors in each area elect a peer to serve as Area Chairman for one year. Directors are NOT paid! Companies and/or chapters usually subsidize expenses.

What does the Board do? • Keeps eye on health of our chapters • Measures customer satisfaction • Monitors finances and membership trends • “Works” programs in 4 areas: • Association Services / Development • Community & Communications • Professional Development • Recognition
Role of the NMA Director • Each Director has an opportunity… • to make a substantial contribution to the progress of NMA • to expand personal leadership skills • to make lasting personal and professional friends
How NMA Directors Assist • SHAREbest practices and lessons learned with other chapters • INTERPRETNMA policies and procedures • INFORM chapters of new products and services available from NMA chapters as well as to executives in affiliated companies • LISTENto those they serve and act as a liaison between their chapters and the NMA Board of Directors
