  3. Early Egyptian Society • I.Old Kingdom- • A. Time of great Pyramids • 1. Pharaohs- descendants of gods / absolute authority • 2. Khufu- most famous Pharaoh of time • B. Social structure • 1. Ancient Egypt population- 2 million / Most were farmers • C. Egypt's neighbors • 1. Contact was made with- • Sumerians, Nubians, & Syria • Acquired- myrrh, gold • ivory, slaves & wood.

  4. Religion & Egyptian Life • Worshipping gods was a way of life • Polytheistic / During Old Kingdom- • All of Egypt was expected to worship the same gods • Main gods of worship • Ptah- creator god / Amon-Re- Sun god / Osiris- underworld / Isis- women & magic / Horus- Sky god.

Homework • With the handout provided, draw 6 items that you would need or want in the afterlife. • Make sure it is colorful & on the back please explain why these 6 items are most important to you. • They will be hung up in class for all to see. So make it look nice! • Pg. 90 vocabulary & pg. 95 #1-4
